Months ago, I published an op-ed laying out Trump’s intentions to interfere in our elections. This week, I think he’s preparing to take his biggest step yet. I fear his speech on Thursday is meant to mislead Americans and lay the groundwork for election interference. Don't take the claims at face value – follow the facts.

Jon Ossoff: If the President calls Georgia's Senators illegitimate, he is calling Georgia's voters illegitimate. He tried to commit voter fraud when he badgered Brad Raffensperger to "find" him the exact number of votes he needed to win in a state he had lost. This is a failed and disgraced president who is pocketing billions of dollars for himself while he drives up prices for the American people.

Georgians need to know the truth about Mike Collins. Collins voted with Trump against releasing the Epstein files even after it was revealed Epstein sexually abused girls as young as 14. Mike Collins protected powerful elites instead of our children. Jon Ossoff passed a law to stop child sex trafficking. Watch our new ad:

This is true. Rs still can't produce even a 10-second recording of Mitch McConnell after a month. They withholding information bc they don't want Gov. Andy Beshear to appoint someone else. How can Rs in Congress justify keeping Kentucky voters in the dark?

“SCOTT, YOU ARE LYING.” @profgalloway & @karaswisher aren’t buying the McConnell pic is real proof of life — and Galloway accuses @ScottJenningsKY of lying about his conversation with #MissingMitch (on @CNN’s “I Feel Stupider With @abbydphillip” 👀 🔥 )

Ossoff: "We understand the president may be threatening to declare sitting senators illegitimate. If that's the course of action he pursues, he's calling Georgia voters illegitimate ... he was humiliated and furious as a committed lifelong racist that it was Black voters in Georgia who were instrumental in his defeat"

There's a very common playbook that leaders use when they fear that they or their party are going to lose an election. So, here are some of the steps in that authoritarian playbook that you should look out for: 1⃣ Install loyalists to key positions around the elections. The president, unlike his first term, has really put in deep loyalists across the government; in the attorney general’s office, in charge of elections and election security. Putting in people who are more loyal to him than they are to the Constitution and who will do whatever he says. 2⃣ Sow doubt in our election system. The president has been doing this since 2020. He’s talking falsely about how our elections were rigged in 2020. He’s been talking about how the elections we just had in Los Angeles were rigged. He said in the State of the Union this year that if he and his party don't win in November, then the 2026 are rigged. The president has come out against mail-in voting and absentee voting. The president is already starting to do this by suing states across the country, including Michigan, for their voter rolls. He has particularly taken a sharp look at the city of Detroit and in Wayne County. This is all part of a bigger play to sow doubt into the efficacy of our elections. 3⃣ Suggest that there is a crisis threatening our elections. This is all about amping up the stories and the coverage and the tweets about how we are actually in an emergency. That our elections are so unsafe, so problematic, that the president has to declare some sort of emergency. 4⃣ Respond to the perceived threat. Once you've created an emergency and you’ve said our elections are under threat, now the head of state has to respond to that emergency. Maybe they send the uniform military; maybe they send the federal law enforcement; maybe they feel the need to be on location at polling places. Maybe now they are seizing ballots and voting machines. 5⃣ If none of that works and the elections don't go the way of the leader, completely question the results. Sue to try and have them overturned. We lived through this in 2020, and as someone who, on January 6, barricaded herself in her own office, we’ve seen that President Trump does not accept the results of elections that he loses.

2/ -A difficult week for Republicans Questions remain about whether McConnell is still capable of fully performing his duties as a U.S. senator. -The sudden passing of Senator Lindsey Graham slows the Republican agenda in the Senate.

1/ With 113 days until the midterm elections: - A mixed week for Democrats in Maine: Democrats now have an opportunity to nominate a more centrist candidate with less political baggage; Susan Collins also carries significant Trump political baggage.

Looks like many people owe @ScottJenningsKY an apology, including the statement made that essentially threw him under the bus. Sometimes it’s best to wait and verify before jumping to conclusions.

MCCONNELL releases a photo - and statement. “To my fellow Kentuckians –    “When you elected me to a seventh term and made me our Commonwealth’s longest serving Senator, you did so trusting that I’d keep showing up to fight for you every day. And over the past several weeks, Elaine and I have appreciated both your well wishes and your honest questions about what was keeping me away from the Senate.   “You all know how folks of my generation often hesitate to share the vulnerability that comes with growing older. Even in the public eye, I feel that same instinct – I can’t help it.   “But at the same time, I’ve had more than my share of experience with physical vulnerabilities. Surviving childhood polio meant spending my entire life with mobility challenges. They haven’t exactly gotten easier to manage with age. And last month, I took a fall which landed me in the hospital.   “My doctors have confirmed that I didn’t break any bones or suffer a concussion. I didn’t have a heart attack or a stroke. I don’t have any tumors or hemorrhages. But I was briefly unconscious and was taken to the hospital. While receiving excellent care over the past several weeks, I’ve also had to deal with a mild case of pneumonia.   “I can assure you that I’ve been a good patient. At my age, I tend to do what my doctors tell me to do. I’ve submitted to every test they can think of to help figure out what caused this incident. And I’m continuing to do everything they ask to speed my recovery. In fact, with signs of continued progress, I’ve been able to move from hospital care to a rehabilitation center where I’ll keep regaining my strength.   “As much as it frustrates me, this process takes time. And on the advice of my doctors, I won’t be able to return to the Senate floor to vote quite yet. But rest assured that, in the meantime, I’m not taking a break from the Senate business that matters to you. I’ve been working closely with my legislative staff on current issues, and with my Kentucky team who help me provide timely constituent services across our Commonwealth. I’ve also been keeping in touch with my Senate colleagues on the appropriations process, midterm politics, and everything in between.   “You’re right to expect your representatives to work hard for you. And part of my decision to retire at the end of my term this coming January was being honest about the demands of Senate work. But I still have unfinished business to complete on your behalf, and I have every intention of finishing the job you elected me to do.   “I’ll keep working hard to get back on the Senate floor as soon as possible. And I’ll keep you posted on the progress of my recovery. Until then, I’m so grateful for your prayers and well wishes.”

In some ways, Republican devotion to the attorney general of Texas, Ken Paxton, is even more troubling than its continued support for Trump. Their enthusiastic support for a corrupt adulterer (Texas Republicans voted for him in the Senate primary runoff over the conservative, scandal-free John Cornyn by a staggering 28 points) tells us that the moral compromise of Trump’s supporters isn’t confined to the president. There is an expanding acceptance of corrupt politicians — so long as they "fight." nytimes.com/2026/07/12/opi…
