@Rickyroaster1 @janrosenow When i had gas i had it on for 2 hrs a day. Now my ASHP is on 24/7 keeps the house at 18C. It costs less than 1/4 of the running price. You shouldn't be turning your heat pump on and off, just let it run.

UK Energy Performance Certificates never recommend a heat pump. Those who install one often get downgraded. Why? I was on BBC Morning Live to shed light on what is completely counterintuitive as we try to incentivise heat electrification.

@PeterW4tw @janrosenow My heat pump gets a SCOP of 4.5. That means if i was on your electricity tariff it would be cheaper than gas (4.4p/kwh). Using my home batteries my average electric price has been 12p, so 2.6p/kwh comparatively. I also don't have to pay the gas standing charge.

@janrosenow Price of that electricity vs cost of gas has changed upwards though; costs of new infrastructure & CfDs for renewables. My gas 5.22/kWh leccy 20.21 That's the maths for consumers

"Heat pumps just shift gas burning to the power station." Wrong. Even if 100% of electricity came from gas, a heat pump at SCOP 3.8 uses 51% less gas than a boiler. At a terrible SCOP 2.5, still 25% less. David MacKay made this point in 2008. The maths hasn't changed.

@RowBlack_ @MrGWB71 Less than 0.3% of british veterans are homeless. 26k is the starting salary and is topped up by having free accomodation and a pension of 7k on top. Total renumeration is over £33k for a job that requires no education. There is a guaranteed pay increase every year as well.
