Huge congratulations to our LA champion @Reis2Occasion! One of the most consistently dominant & humble players. 🏆 Reis winning LA had me reflecting a bit, & I want to hear your thoughts... 4 & 1/2 years ago, @limonlime94 swept the 327-person LA Mega tournament 9-0. There were 136 competitors in LA this past weekend. 300+ players showed up to a grassroots tournament with no P!P, no Championship Points, & no prize money. It shows that we are still working to recover from the damage the pandemic did to our grassroots communities. Our regional tournament - 4+ years later - attracted less than 1/2 of the 2019 competitors, even though it had official support. This isn't meant to be a negative. If anything, it shows the highs that our game can return to, and even surpass. I want to ask you: what will it take to bring back our grassroots communities, and further grow our Play! Pokémon tournament numbers? Do you have any ideas? I'll read every comment! ⬇️ #PokemonGO #PlayPokemon

@matthew_luckow Is it a paint-on matte or a spray? You have to shake them really well either way. I've not used paint-on varnish, but for spray finishes, make sure you're doing light coats with the can about a foot from the minis, and do several coats.

@AlexKallend Thank you! I have a matte varnish but it turned out shinier than I expected, I may have put it on too thick. This is from Etsy, it's 32mm scale so it was a little easier to paint. I wasn't a huge fan of the Heroforge prints, personally. etsy.com/shop/DynamicPr…

My latest mini is for @TheFragginWagon's wildfire druid, Rook! This was a fun one to paint and a heavy dose of shadow wash worked well with the detailed print.

You should see the avatar customization options in Baldur's Gate 3, you can customize -everything-....

@JEngels21 @Jason2890PoGo What do you mean they can't pick proper raid counters. My level 25 single-moved fire blast ho-oh will certainly outperform my level 50 sacred fire one.

It’s always funny to me that people will insist (in a game that has been analyzed and data-mined to bits) that Niantic built a complicated team-comp based algorithm that is simultaneously “obvious” to lower skilled players yet subtle enough to avoid detection by data analysis.

@AlexKallend @PokeProfNet I agree with you but the rewards are still not enough. I blew through probably 200+ misc balls. They knew what they were doing, up the Mons activity on screen, make us waste items, make us spend money. Like increased shinies to start events. Spike up the FOMO to get money back

Just finished my warlock for new d&d game, servant of Dao genie. Weapons overrated when you can eldritch blast everything. Shading on face&cloak&familiar is done with layers of washes and then going back over w base color.

@matthew_luckow But the other thing is to learn to embrace washes. I know you said it made the figures look dirty, but you use the contours of the figure and surface tension do the work for you, to get the depth, then go over the highlights with the base color again.

My first character minis, a pair of tieflings! One is water-themed/Fathomless, and the other is fey-themed. The tiny sizes are super tough but this was fun practice! I based the left one on this 5e art.

@matthew_luckow I like the fathomless - I'm playing a genie warlock For smaller figures, hand stability helps - you want to minimize the natural unsteadiness in our bodies - so what I do is brace my elbows on the table, and brace my wrists against each other, so the only movement is fingers

@theverybest5000 I don't understand - your point is, it's a sub-par event that you don't really want to do, so you're upset that not everyone can do it? What's wrong with just randomly spawning something for a day or two. Skiddo still not available and this is your hill?

Reasons I strongly dislike this Kanto-starters-in-party-hats "event" 🙂 1. Surprise events are inherently dismissive of the time, personal responsibilities, and individuality of the players. It is absurd to assume the majority of people are able to change up their entire day in order to play this event on a whim. And on a WEEKDAY?! Be serious. Such events are inherently exclusionary. It's yet another testament to how Niantic does not see us as people, but rather as nothing more than a conglomerate of juicy data for them to exploit. But also, when I look at this event in particular... I mean, it's completely bare bones. No bonuses, no research, no new release - just recycled costumed spawns. I don't think this event was only a surprise for US - I think it was a surprise for Niantic staff as well. I think TPC reached out and said "hey you're doing something for pokemon day right?" And Niantic was like "OH SHIT POKEMON DAY" and threw this bs together 🤣 Anyway. My list of reasons. That's the biggest one, but let's continue 😜 2. It comes directly on the heels of a tremendous event. Many of us are exhausted, our storage full, our resources depleted. It would've been nice to know ahead of time that we'd need some storage and ultra balls by Tuesday 🙃 3. FUCKING. STARTER. CATCH RATES. They couldn't even increase the catch rates and/or increase the drop rate of ultra balls for one 24h event?! BE 👏 SERIOUS 👏 So...yeah 🥱
