D3 WBB Coaching News: Don Mulhern has stepped down as head coach at St. Kate's, per a press release from the school. He spent the last 9 seasons as HC, going 97-106. He earned MIAC Coach of the Year honors in 2024 after St. Kate's went 19-8 and finished third in the MIAC. Per the release, Mulhern's decision was "driven by personal health considerations and wanting to focus on providing support as a family caregiver." #d3hoops

As someone who's been a huge UCLA fan for a long time, I'm happy that @UCLAWBB is moving on to the Elite 8. It's disappointing I know for @GopherWBB to have a great season come to an end but @CoachDawnP has got something special brewing in Dinkytown.

For sure. You definitely don't see it happen all that often, and I'd argue that dynamic makes this hire that much more significant. At the same time, I think this was the logical hire all along, considering her ties to the city of Eau Claire itself. Not sure she would've left Stout for any other WIAC job besides this one.

A few more thoughts on this... 1) Tremendous hire for UWEC. What Iverson did at Stout is very notable. Took over a program that hadn't won a WIAC Tournament game since 2010 and turned it into a national contender highlighted by 2 big NCAA Tournament runs. Great decision by the UWEC administration. 2) From a recruiting standpoint, the timing of this hire is ideal. It's late March, but there's ample time to pull in transfers, potentially a couple more HS commits, and retool the roster quickly. Had UWEC waited into April, putting a contender on the floor in November would've been a much more difficult task. 3) Where does Stout go from here? This is a job that will draw significant interest. It's too early to speculate on candidates but the timing will be important. As it stands right now, Stout is poised to return most of its production from last season, but the administration probably can't afford to take too long in making a hire. #d3hoops

Bennett Stirtz has been an on-court extension of Ben McCollum throughout Iowa’s first Elite Eight run since 1987. Plays a steady, mature, methodical, efficient, mistake-free brand of basketball while still having the skill, feel, and creative freedom to stir the drink for the Hawkeyes. Has played all 120 minutes in their three March Madness wins, remarkably committing zero fouls and just one turnover on high usage against elite competition. The projected mid-1st round pick will have another crack at history on Saturday against familiar B1G foe, Illinois.
