Plant health is essential to global food security, yet pathogens continue to threaten crops worldwide. To better understand how disease takes hold—and how to stop them—HHMI Hanna Gray Fellow Shanice Webster is exploring the dynamic relationships among plants, microbes, and disease-causing agents. At Duke University, Shanice aims to uncover general principles and mechanistic underpinnings of how pathogens and the microbiome influence each other in plant pathogenesis. Her work could ultimately inform new strategies to detect, prevent, or treat plant diseases—advancing basic science with real-world applications in agriculture.

Type IV pili (T4P) are important virulence factors in many bacterial pathogens. This #JBacteriology review explores the mechanisms regulating T4p motor function, which could be harnessed to disable the pili in pathogenic bacteria. Get the full story: asm.social/2bR

Our c-di-GMP sensor story is finally out in @NatureComms: rdcu.be/dHsEh. Including new data demonstrating cdGreen2 as a convenient tool to study DGC and PDE activity in vitro. Great collaboration with @simon_vanvliet and @MaierLab!
