We had a fun first day of the O'Toole lab retreat in Maine. Talks on surface sensing (x2) and regulation of biofilm adhesins. Plus 3 paella's to feed the crew! And some decent weather - not always the case on the coast of Maine in June!

Retreat Day #2! We talked about biofilm adhesins in SRBs, biofilm maintenance & biofilm airway communities, and gut microbiota in CF. And of course, lobster at the Chauncey Creek Lobster Pier in Kittery, ME! Plus some steamer, chowda and a lobster roll.

Very excited about this review from the lab by Shanice Webster with Gerard Wong. We define bacterial mechanosensing (vs. surface sensing - NOT the same thing!) in the context of work in euks, and propose future directions for the field. journals.asm.org/doi/full/10.11… @ASMicrobiology

Posted a new manuscript by Sherry Kuchma describing features of pili required for cAMP-mediated surface sensing. At least some pili function is required for signaling (but twitching is not!) - & we challenge a standing model in the field. @ASMicrobiology biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
