These riots are not about disenfranchisement or the ‘left behinds’, migration or asylum seekers. This is about ultra right wing multimillionaires some of whom (with years of media complexity) have become politicians spreading Putin linked disinformation and propaganda.

I just don’t think getting rid of the xfer system will benefit the majority of pro players.

Such a list is illustrative (twitter not suited to much more) and you can see that these are all clubs good at recruiting/developing players. Hence redistributive effect. But you’re right, more studies (as were done in 99/00) need to be done

@AlexPhillips8 @ChrisLepetit @Ant1Duval Yes, I saw the list. It’s a list of European clubs with net spends. This is not an empirical study based on audited financial statements which show player and non-player income, and how t/fees are redistributed between large and small clubs…..

Unless I’m missing something, I don’t believe FIFA or MA’s have ever undertaken modelling or have empirical evidence to justify such a claim?

@ChrisLepetit @Ant1Duval Which is why a big symbolic win for FIFPro in free movement would in practice benefit mainly the richest clubs and players - and be an even bigger loss for the vast majority of pro players (and their small club employers) below the elite levels in the pyramid @FrancisAwartefe

@ChrisLepetit @Ant1Duval All these clubs in turn use the money to 1. cover their losses (mainly from player salaries) to stay competitive, as well 2. transfer fees (out) to smaller clubs further down the pyramid (who, in turn, mainly use it to cover their losses [player salaries etc), and so on.

@Ant1Duval With a small number of notable exceptions on specific issues where v good argumentation was brought (e.g. xfer system 2001, central mktg 2003, FFP 2010)

@Ant1Duval Unfortunately the « governing bodies », whilst good at lobbying and capturing EU bodies/people, have rarely properly and convincingly articulated what they say are in favour of (pyramid, specificity, CB, solidarity, etc etc).
