@DiscussingFilm If a film set in modern-day Hollywood was to feature 2 execs pitching the idea to a studio head, the audience would find it funny, but almost a stale joke (it would have been hilarious 10 years ago).

An all-female ‘EXPENDABLES’ spin-off is in the works titled ‘EXPENDABELLES’.
The film is set in the late 1990s during the height of Y2K-era tension and geopolitical uncertainty.

It's a miracle, you guys. I was supposed to spend 3-5 days in the hospital, but I'm already home feeling good (on drugs). My endometriosis was bad but not as bad as the MRI showed. My surgeon removed everything. Laparoscopic surgery is awesome. I'm a new woman now. 🙌 ❤️

I’d hypothesize they didn’t necessarily plan it as such, but the outrage “virus” seems to be spreading at the proper speed to make Nolan’s Odyssey an even greater box office success than he’d otherwise reasonably expect it to be.
Your coming full circle as early as mid May sounds a bit early though. Will a premature “revolution” hurt the Mid July opening weekend numbers or is the timing appropriate to ensure a historic theatrical run? Mmm 🤔

My Odyssey outrage (what little I had) has gone full circle. It might be so wrong it’s right, and now I’m just curious with sick fascination. Has all this twisted controversy just fueled the interest? Is this some twisted marketing ploy? Will the angered only see it three times? I remind everyone, NO ONE HAS SEEN THIS MOVIE.

I usually would be against the whole DEI thing, but there’s such a bullying effort to destroy the film ahead of even watching it, it makes me want to defend it.
Instead of spending all that energy complaining and thinking to be fighting a righteous fight, why not try and ask questions to Nolan and his producers instead?
I find all this outrage for a mythological character being black (among other stuff) to be extremely annoying and boring.

Rumors that Elliot Page is playing Achilles haven't helped either.
But the anger should be directed at the right target.
Nolan didn't write the rules.
Hollywood's DEI quotas, baked into how films qualify for major awards, came from elsewhere.
Filmmakers either play by those rules or watch their projects lose Oscar eligibility before the cameras even roll.
Hollywood broke storytelling.
Nolan's just navigating the wreckage.
The system that punishes faithful adaptations is the actual villain, and it lives way above any one director.

@andrewdoyle_com Not literally, you haven’t, but your post does suggest that you believe Nolan’s film preaches DEI and will inevitably fail.
I see a lot of similar negativity around the movie way ahead of its release and I think it should at least stem from watching the actual thing, that’s all.

It doesn’t matter how well executed a film might be, once it starts with the DEI preaching it invariably fails.

I think she’s changed her style a bit and it’s gotten annoying. It’s not just the F bombs, the volume of the voice as well: like, if you happen to listen to her show on EarPods while doing other stuff, at some point she might suddenly go real high - way too much, and she also does it during commercials a bit, so it’s more deliberate than simply dictated by some passionate discourse.
I suppose it’s her way to kind of energize her content or make it more compelling somehow by trying to sound more “authentic”. There’s a tough competition in the political commentary podcast market, I guess 🤷🏻♂️
There’d be a lot to say about the content as well…

I don’t see the value.
I’m not a prude that thinks swearing is some big, evil, sinful thing.
However, if your arguments are constantly laced with F bombs and name calling, you automatically lose some credibility and your reputation diminishes.

Sure, it happens all the time.
Still, I had no problem saying Black Panther sucked even when it was a box office success.
Like Ethan Hawke rightly said, “time is the great curator”. People can defend whatever they want, eventually true value will reveal itself and what is to be forgotten will be forgotten.
