It requires relatively few interventions to make a good street into a great street. - Ditch tarmac for stone paving (over a short stretch at least) - Rain gardens/street trees - Attractive streetlights It's something we should be doing on every high street and village centre.

Beautiful Dnipro. Despite the attacks on civilian infrastructure and residential buildings, it isn’t a city under stress. The shops are still full, cafés are busy, and life snaps back quickly after every strike. That’s the reality here, thanks to our warriors 🙏🇺🇦

@Raffiatim @MarkHyn03699576 @TheRealJamieKay And what were the Palestinians up to in 1970s Lebanon? Partly why Saudi Arabia won’t take Gazan refugees - how many countries view them as troublemakers? A few in the region. Genocidal fascists aren’t just the few you choose to label. They’re in Iran, southern Lebanon, Gaza.

@Krissy_J_UK @ZiaYusufUK @TonyHenderson01 I remember the old city hall building (onion) in London. The sea of non-white faces in the IT department. They actively recruited ethnic minorities. I know that as I used to match people with work placements and jobs. Sick of the hackneyed phrase ‘structural inequalities’.

There are Home Office staff facilitating the invasion of Britain. This is the man the Tories allowed to oversee their ‘deportation program’. A man who openly advocates for open borders. He, and others like him, will be escorted from the building the moment Reform wins power.

Standing by a pro 🇵🇸 London march, my neighbour’s colleague Mohammed said “You need to get some of these people out of Britain - do you know what they’re saying?” Ban ALL Palestine flags and marches. Anti atrocities? This lot have never called out Russia! theguardian.com/uk-news/2026/m…

🇺🇦💔 The son was supposed to take care of his elderly father, but Russia and its bloody war took his life. It’s heartbreaking. The officer presents the national flag to the elderly father at the funeral of his son, who died defending Ukraine. 📹 alex_tretyak/Instagram

A crushing and telling account of three sisters (and others) who were evicted from their little home on Norman Road in Leytonstone (where I was born) in 1974. Many Victorian homes in Leytonstone and the surrounding areas were demolished throughout the 20th century for several "reasons", including road expansion, housing developments, and the aftermath of wartime damage. For me, wartime damage is an excuse to demolish if they're genuinely too damaged, but never an excuse not to rebuild in the same style. In a twist of irony, the characterless tower blocks blocking out the sky became neglected and were demolished in 2004 only to be replaced with low-level houses. The war on the families and the togetherness of British people has been waging for longer than most understand. Not only will we never get them back, but never again will we see the loving individuals who made the best of a harsh world. All I can think of watching this is my beautiful grandmother, her grit, and the love that I miss more than I could ever explain. Just because you fill something up, doesn't mean it isn't empty. ⏳️

Beltane or Bealtaine was a Celtic/Gaelic festival held on the 1st May to mark the beginning of summer. One of the key parts of the festival (alongside massive bonfires, feasting & making merry with beer 👀) was the exchange of posies to bring good luck. Here's a Beltane posy for you from my garden, including cow parsley, red campion, borage & forget me not (I made the jug in pottery class)🌿

@cleanupbritain Refuse collection doesn’t happen in many parts of the world (towns and cities in Bangladesh, India etc) Habits are sometimes brought here and we should stamp down on them. But there’s also a general malaise and selfishness in today’s Britain. People simply don’t give a fig.

This is what the main road into Hull looks like, but virtually every British city has its own equivalent. International visitors must think "what a dump Britain is". Sadly, much of it is...

@Seriousmoonlig5 @cleanupbritain But the fine and litter duties might upset them and impact their right to express themselves through plastic, tyres and other objects. We will never be sufficiently punitive - we’re weak-willed 🙄

@cleanupbritain Yep, went to Norway and saw how it should be, no litter. Anyone caught £1000 fine and make them pick up litter for 100hours.

@VinnieSull1van Nice! 😊 It must be disconcerting to see parts of the city you love turn into those ubiquitous unmemorable blocks. I often gush over examples of modernism, brutalism, post-modernism. However, I doubt the oversized modernity we see emerging everywhere will stand the test of time.

Close your eyes Close your eyes, I'll see you there. It's there I'll always be. Be I here or be I gone, Just close your eyes and see. Close your eyes, you'll see me there, Waiting, just for you. There I'll be, just we alone, My very favourite view. Close them when, things are hard, Even in harsh weather. There I'll stay beside you til, You're sure that we're together. I'm with you now, as I was then, In darkness we'll prevail. Face us every wind and tide, Upon which you set sail. Be I by your side or not, It's now all but the same. I dwell within the best of you. And so too does my name. If it feels I am not there, And I am not around. In amongst your deepest thoughts, Is where I can be found. And if by chance you miss me, You know now what to do. And know as well as all of this, I always miss you too. So close your eyes, I'll see you there, It's there I'll always be. Be I here or be I gone, Just close your eyes and see.

When people tell me that my love for London and Britain overall is because I'm stuck in the past, I instantly think that their main goal is not only to destory both, but everything that helped create them.
