I don't really understand the internal consistency of an approach of pausing at this meeting, but then signaling to further rate hikes down the road and signaling that they no longer expect unemployment to increase nearly as much as they used to expect it.

Same Fed that told us in mid-2021 we would end up with a 5/8% funds rate in 2023 is now telling us that it will be 5-3/4%. Same Fed that told us at end-2018 we would see 2 more hikes in 2019 and instead cut 3 times. Please get rid of these dot-plots.

#Powell's rational for skipping a rate hike, while admitting the risks to #inflation are still to the upside, doesn't make sense. Powell is clearly worried about the evolving financial crisis, but doesn't want to spook markets. So he's done hiking, but doesn't want to admit it.
