Thank you HRW for raising this important issue. HRW is a globally respected organisation with a long record of rigorous, fact-based reporting. Its findings on Western Sahara are consistent with years of documented repression, harassment of Sahrawi activists, and restrictions on fundamental freedoms. Western Sahara is still recognized by the UN as a Non-Self-Governing Territory, and the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination remains inalienable under international law. Moroccan trolls can attack Human Rights Watch all they want, but killing the messenger will not erase the reality of occupation, abuse, and the denial of justice.

NEW: A UN Security Council resolution on the dispute of the Western Sahara does not ensure that a new framework to end the long-standing issue upholds the right to self-determination for the Sahrawi people and is consistent with international law. hrw.org/news/2026/03/2…

Human Rights Watch is one of the world’s most respected independent human rights organisations. Its reporting is not based on propaganda or trolling, but on documented evidence, field research, legal analysis, and long-established investigative standards. Attempts by Moroccan trolls to discredit HRW do not answer the facts it has raised. They only confirm a familiar strategy: attack the messenger to avoid confronting the reality. Human Rights Watch has repeatedly documented repression in Morocco and Western Sahara, including harassment of Sahrawi activists, restrictions on freedom of expression and assembly, and obstruction of local human rights work. The legal and political reality is also clear. Western Sahara remains on the United Nations list of Non-Self-Governing Territories, and the UN continues to frame the issue around the self-determination of the Sahrawi people. The UN has explicitly recognized the inalienable right of the people of Western Sahara to self-determination and independence. So instead of smear campaigns and coordinated online abuse, Morocco’s defenders should address the substance: the ongoing occupation of Western Sahara, the pattern of human rights abuses, and the continued obstruction of a just process that allows the Sahrawi people to freely determine their future. Facts do not disappear because trolls are loud.

Today in Sydney, we proudly raised the Saharawi flag to mark the 50th anniversary of the proclamation of the Saharawi Republic (SADR). At Leichhardt Town Hall in Sydney, alongside Australian supporters and friends, we commemorated five decades of resilience, sacrifice and state-building. Over the past 50 years, our people have built and consolidated national institutions, and today the Saharawi Republic stands as a full member of the African Union, recognised by more than 80 countries worldwide. On this historic occasion, I reaffirmed that the Saharawi people remain firmly determined to exercise their inalienable right to self-determination. What we seek is clear: respect for international law, the implementation of relevant UN resolutions, and adherence to the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice on Western Sahara. The anniversary was also marked in Melbourne and Ballarat, where local councils, trade unions and solidarity groups raised the Saharawi flag in continued support of a peaceful, just and fair solution to the decolonisation of Western Sahara.

On the 50th anniversary of the proclamation of the Saharawi Republic, we celebrate five decades of resilience and achievement. A full member of the African Union and recognised by dozens of states, it has built viable institutions, gained deep state-building experience, and stands as a resource-rich, democratic model for the region. Saharawis are committed to stability, development, peace, and women’s leadership.

The Sahrawi people are resilient and committed to self determination. For decades, despite displacement, occupation and repression, the Sahrawi people have neither surrendered nor abandoned their demand for a free and fair referendum. greenleft.org.au/2026/1448/worl…

On 8 Feb 2016, the Sahrawi Football Federation was established to strengthen Sahrawi presence in continental and international sport. At Nelson Mandela Stadium in Algiers, the national team of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic played a symbolic friendly against Algerian national team veterans on Friday, marking the 50th anniversary of the Sahrawi Republic (officially commemorated on 27 Feb). The match stood as a visible gesture of solidarity from the Algerian people with the people of Western Sahara.

In a major and quite unprecedented development Algeria 🇩🇿 seems to have accepted Moroccan plans for autonomy of the Western Sahara within the kingdom of Morocco 🇲🇦 This means the Polisario Front 🇪🇭 might have lost its most valuable ally. middleeasteye.net/news/us-holds-…

Representative Wilson, with due respect, you need to decide which accusation you are making. At various times, you describe the Polisario Front as a communist/Marxist movement and, at other times, as a pro-Iran, Hezbollah-aligned jihadist organisation. These claims are mutually contradictory. You cannot credibly advance both, switching between them as political convenience dictates. This pattern is not analysis; it is the product of Moroccan lobbying in Washington, which appears to rely on throwing every available label at the Polisario—without evidence—depending on the fashion of the moment. Communists one day, jihadists the next. As a United States Senator, you enjoy significant privilege. That privilege comes with responsibility. Repeating unverified propaganda and demonstrably false claims undermines your credibility and reflects poorly on the office you hold. It does not serve your constituents, nor does it serve U.S. interests. No serious policymaker or observer will take your advice seriously if you continue to promote baseless allegations and recycled talking points. This approach damages your standing and cheapens legitimate diplomatic discourse. Facts matter. Consistency matters. Credibility matters.

Grateful for President Trump and Special Envoy Witkoff’s incredible efforts encouraging PEACE between Morocco and Algeria which could as a result help expel War Criminal Putin from North Africa. To the great nation of Algeria — you are better off with a STRONG relationship with the U.S. which can offer so much economically and militarily. There is no way for Algeria other than dumping the Polisario communist terrorists destabilizing Morocco and trying to establish a Marxist state in the desert and instead supporting the just solution of autonomy for the Sahrawi people. If you leave your buddies War Criminal Putin, the terrorist regime in Iran, and tyrant Kais Saied, there could be a great future for Algeria 🇩🇿 and its incredible people!

French colonisation of Algeria was incomprehensibly violent. Raphael Lemkin, who coined the term "genocide", described the French colonisation of Algeria as genocidal. It was truly heinous, nightmarish stuff, from the homeland of liberalism itself. theguardian.com/world/2025/dec…
