My team built a VPN at Google. Summary of my advice on VPNs: 1) Never ever use a free VPN. 2) Be wary of any influencer-marketed VPNs with big discounts. Up to you but I wouldn’t use Nord/Express/etc based in Lithuania/Cyprus/Panama. 3) Mullvad is the best consumer VPN and it’s not even close. (more below)

There ya go, @phrack Government complained. Proton complied because they're a legal company and have to remain in compliance.

@vxunderground @ProtonMail @phrack We were alerted by a CERT that certain accounts were being misused by hackers in violation of Proton’s Terms of Service. This led to a cluster of accounts being disabled. Our team is now reviewing these cases individually to determine if any can be restored.

I made my @AlgoVPN over a year ago in Octoberish 2021. I can't recommend it enough. If you have an AWS account and can use AWS somewhat decently, you can have a nice private VPN with adblocking, if you don't need Tor. It's fast and reasonably private, and doesn't get flagged.

Thought I was really clever setting up an Algo server in a foreign country to bypass Geo restrictions to watch a show. Forgot the show might not have English subtitles if it's streaming in its native country... Afterwards, find that it's already on YouTube with English subs 🤦🏻‍♂️

To me, this is a massive story that just flew under the radar. The consolidation of commercial VPNs under a single shady banner alone should be cause for alarm, worse yet when they have a reputation for malware distribution. restoreprivacy.com/kape-technolog…
