@EnkaNetwork You release Arknight before Wuwa (I've been asking for it for a while).

@benii22184786 Nice to see that someone is still carrying the "transforming minecraft into realistic paintings" 10 years later :)
Good job!

@mengk20 @TransluceAI So the issue is not foreign concepts, and solving that by zeroing them out is also not a solution.
The problem is loose typing.
If you explicitly say these are floats, no errors occur.
English

why do language models think 9.11 > 9.9?
at @transluceAI we stumbled upon a surprisingly simple explanation - and a bugfix that doesn't use any re-training or prompting.
turns out, it's about months, dates, September 11th, and... the Bible?

@nephyrus @PikminBloom What's even worse, if you just shake your hand around holding your phone, it'll count as steps. Which is probably 1/20 the effort of a wheelchair push.
English

hey @PikminBloom why does your wheelchair user option make one push = HALF a step???
i’ve tested with multiple people now, for every time i push my wheels, whoever is walking at a regular pace next to me takes two or THREE steps. not 0.5.
this is literally just unfair

@Tantacrul Factoid is a colloquially accepted falsehood. So which one is it? /squint

@ESYudkowsky Do we assume here the neurons make up a person, instead of rejecting both ideas and asserting that consciousness lies outside of the physical neuron interactions, which are only the body signalling layer?
English

So many people out there believe -- and not because they're evil -- that computers are made of antimagical stuff which renders anything inside, fake; that electrons within transistors are deeply less real than ions inside neurons; that everything inside a computer is like a made-up story and powerless, whereas what's inside brains is real and powerful.
They learned, maybe, that wind-up cars are "just machines" and not like mice which are really alive, back when they were toddlers and had to be told the difference. And now they think that any process inside a computer -- not just current algorithms -- partakes in that same mechanical quality as a wind-up car, contrasted to a living mouse. It's just intuitive to them; they're not saying it to pick the more harmful side of a political divide.
They understand the electrons in transistors are real, the same way that ions in neurons are real (though they don't think about the ions as much). But they think like the moving ions are being stuff, and the moving electrons are talking about stuff. So when ions flow in and out of neurons to behave like a person, the neurons are really being that person; but exactly the same isomorphic causal weave, embodied within electrical charges in transistors, would merely be talking about a person.
I wish I knew a short but honest pathway to persuade them out of it.
The pathway that feels most honest to me, is the actual reasoning that persuaded me when I was growing up; a pathway that goes through understanding the nature of reality and physics and cognition; until somebody sees everything as weaves of causality; and realizes that there isn't ultimately such a thing as a little tag on carbon atoms or silicon atoms that makes the thoughts embodied in them be tagged by 'real' or 'fake' at a fundamental level.
That takes too long, unfortunately, and the larger political issues are kind of important. Are there any snappy arguments that work 60% of the time and aren't based on lies?

@StarisDead_ That pic had been doing a lot of rounds on the anime internet back in 2013, and it's an original work by wonoco0916 (pixiv.net/en/artworks/36…)

@JessJWilliamson @Tantacrul Somehow the idea that they're still lurking there somewhere makes me more uneasy...
(i'll be watching your glass-hiding carreer with great interest, I love how it's readable & balanced)
English

@Algoinde @Tantacrul You can hide or show them by customising - they haven't disappeared :)

We're beginning to lock down the dark mode design for Audacity. We're still a bit away from releasing this version but a lot of this UI is already built.
Props to @JessJWilliamson for the finesse job on this!

@GoceMitevski @FirefoxNightly Could you also provide an example of a specific page where this is a problem? You could reply directly in the bug thread if you want to.

text-wrap:balance has landed. This allows multiple lines of text to have their lines broken in such a way that each line is roughly the same width, often used to make headlines more readable and visually appealing.

@ilyamiskov I didn't switch any of my Twitter icons or naming on all my websites either. It doesn't deserve it.

@TheWindHasAWay @housecor @HugeLeters At the level where it would save them any meaningful cloud bills, the client would have already been utterly exploded.

@RedDudeGuy @FreyaHolmer @godotengine No expectations of maturity were held in that tweet. Lack of default anti-aliasing indeed gives the "scrappy unfinished engine vibe", because anti-aliasing adds "professional polish" vibes. That's just how it is. It's like having ClearType enabled or not.
English

@FreyaHolmer @godotengine Anyone expecting an opensource engine to have the same mature than Fortnight engine or a 18 years old private engine, need to hold up expectations a little. The person is lacking in maturity, not the engine.
Also, calling it a "scrappy unfinished engine" is indeed say it is bad.
