Florida has become an epicenter of coral restoration but if success is measure by the amount of live coral on the reef, the campaign is in dire straights “If the coal mine is the Keys, the canary is dead" my latest, w/ amazing photos by Jason Gulley huffpost.com/entry/coral-re…

What we do/don’t know re: sharks ecological roles. Much predation/fear by big coastal sharks, by western unis, little else. Must protect big individuals & species’ outsized roles. MPAs crucial; engage communities to improve outcomes & shark perceptions tinyurl.com/52e295m3

Energy landscapes of predators and fear landscapes of prey can vary spatially but also temporally and should be integrated. For examples in terrestrial, aerial, and marine ecosystems, see doi.org/10.1111/1365-2… Led by @Dr_Yannis

Are you a US-based graduate student studying coral reef science? Come explore Australia where the rainforest meets the reef to explore coral reefs through a transdisciplinary lens. globalportal.georgiasouthern.edu/index.cfm?Fuse…

@BahaNick For a lot of female scientists (particularly early-career) and maybe other minority groups, putting your name on the lab is the only way to stop people asking if you are a postdoc or who your PI is. So maybe weird for white men (like me), but understandable for many others.

Naming your lab after yourself is just weird.
