Scottish Government to amend the Visitor Levy Act!!! Important news for Scotland’s tourism sector today. The Scottish Government plans to bring forward a Visitor Levy (Amendment) Bill in early 2026. After a year of constructive work by the @ASSCnews, @st_alliance and industry partners, Ministers have recognised the need for a simpler and more practical model. We welcome the decision to introduce a flat, fixed-fee option alongside the existing percentage model. If passed, councils will have greater flexibility on how levies are set, clearer rules on third-party sales, and a more workable framework for implementation. This is essential for fairness, transparency and certainty. A single fixed-fee model remains our preference, but a hybrid approach is the only realistic route within the current timetable. Delay is not an option. For caring more about lining your own pockets than the deaths of NHS staff & patients? Well hello! I feel that I have had to come back on here to share this. Scottish residents don’t realise that they may be liable for a ‘visitor levy’, a tourist tax even if they choose to stay in a nearby hotel. Even if you need to travel for work or an emergency.

This is the reason that @edinburgh_cc is so keen to stop videos of council business. They do not want evidence of inappropriate behaviours or statements that will come back to haunt them. With a diminished press this is dangerous ground & should not be permitted. #SaveSC
