When I remember the little boy I once was, I see a stranger who haunts my nostalgic reveries. It is as though happiness existed in fragments. I remember eagerly awaiting the arrival of summer, when fields were bare and the farmers had finished harvesting their crops. The joy of running barefoot on the barely tilled earth. My heart racing, temples pounding, the first droplets of sweat on my forehead … and the infinite horizon in front of me, without any borders. An excerpt from my memoir Eradication, amp.scroll.in/article/108764…

Drowning We are drowning in the wave of violence and hatred in Myanmar. We are drowning in the ocean of hostility in displacement. We are drowning in the sea of ASEAN’s ignorance. We are drowning in the tide of global indifference. We are drowning not by water, but by your silence. -On November 9, a boat carrying Rohingya people fleeing Myanmar has capsized near the Thai-Malaysian maritime border, killing at least 11 people and leaving hundreds missing. Mayyu Ali paints a picture of naive halcyon days in Arakan spent running to the Purma River, playing in bamboo forests, and watching morning mist settle on the Mayu Mountains. english.dvb.no/eradication-a-…

A new book came in the #bookmail today. It’s #Eradication by @AliMayyu I wasn’t even looking for this book until I saw it on @amazonIN . I expect this to be an emotional read with real life accounts of Rohingya Genocide. It’s really terrible and inhumane what has happened with Rohingyas in Myanmar. This world need more people like Mayyu to raise their voice against oppression. #BooksOfTwitter #Rohingya

“How far would you go to protect your culture and identity when everything around you is being erased?” I wouldn’t indulge in romantic notions of travelling to the moon or another universe. But I would definitely return my homeland ~ Arakan and then travel to countries where our community members reside and educate our children and youth about Rohingya culture and identity and empower them to preserve it for future generations. Recently, India has forcibly sent back hundreds of Rohingya refugees to Myanmar and Bangladesh, with some reportedly being thrown into the open sea and abandoned. Thousands of Rohingya refugees remain in India, where they are frequently subjected to persecution, torture, and detention by the authorities. Furthermore, a fresh wave of xenophobia against Rohingya refugees has emerged. In such inhuman situation, a book alone may not be enough, but educating people about the truth and reality can make a significant difference. I am heartened to see that readers in India are gaining a more nuanced understanding of the Rohingya genocide from my memoir, one that differs from the portrayal in the media. After two years of dedicated efforts and patience, I am pleased to announce that the English edition of my memoir, "Eradication", is forthcoming through @PanMacIndia. You should not miss this book, not merely because it comprises personal, firsthand accounts of the recent genocide, but also because it is a narrative told and written by myself, a survivor. #RohingyaGenocide #RohingyaMemoir #RohingyaNerrative
