Christian friends: do you struggle to read the Bible? It's so important but can be difficult. Would you like to join me in the mornings on Zoom for Bible readings? I do the reading so you don't have to pronounce the hard names.

It's impossible to view the postings of Farage, without utter revulsion. He masquerades as a " reasoned commentator" on what he claims to be a national crisis linked to immigrants while claiming he deplores any lawlessness. Then he hints at more lawlessness if his warnings are not heeded. The reality is that his entire political future is dependent on fomenting confrontation and division. It is by creating a climate of crisis that he has got where he has. And some of my former Conservative colleagues have argued the Conservatives should be linking up with Reform! Perhaps this shameful episode will open their eyes to his malevolence.

As residents in Sunderland city centre, it’s been an awful evening. Really grateful to be part of a local church with leaders who care about our church and the wider community 💖

@davidlrattigan Interesting and well articulated. I haven't thought before about service being task-based rather than people-focused, but I can see that purely focusing on service is a factor in leadership guilt and burnout.

I found this a really interesting contribution; if anyone can suggest any more resources for thinking this way about the language of 'service' in relation to Christian leadership (in contrast to broader culture), fire away! #synod

Lindsay Llewellyn-MacDuff (Rochester) - Questions the assumption that leadership is about service. The language of service in our culture today is task based rather than people focused #synod #generalsynod

@davidlrattigan ... examined, not that of service? If leadership comes with power and privilege, those who take positions must recognise those and mitigate their effects by remembering we are called to serve (and recognise others as friends)

@davidlrattigan Would be a mistake. Currently, I suggest Keir Starmer's rhetoric of service is intended to contrast him with his self-serving predecessors. A contrast I greatly welcome. In the Christian context, I wonder whether it's the concept of leadership which requires to be ...

Take it in. The first female chancellor. The first housing secretary who's actually lived in social housing. The first education secretary who was on free school meals. An energy secretary who actually believes in aggressively fighting climate change. Not a bad afternoon.

Beyond Thursday, I’m not naive enough to believe we will suddenly discover a ‘magic money tree’, but I do hope for honesty, integrity, adherence to International law, an end to raiding the public purse for personal gain, and a govt led by those who care about children & families.

What call and response could you use to identify a British person hiding in a crowd? For instance, shouting “oggy oggy oggy” would force any true Brit to reply, “oi oi oi!” They just wouldn’t be able to resist it.

Our #LibraryOfTheWeek is the library of the London School of Theology (@lstsilentchapel). The library is housed in a building which was once an Anglican chapel, and is entirely silent. The space has a painted ceiling with medallions decorated with gilt paint. #LOTW @LSTheology
