Here we are, alone in space on a spaceship we call Earth. I am disheartened; I thought by now we would have found our cosmic brothers and sisters to share our challenges, joys, and defeats with. But no, we are floating in this galaxy, arguing about our tiny lives and wasting the time that could be used to make us a better civilization. #todaythought

We just launched our Kickstarter to build the SkyMapper network and deploy SkySphere — an intelligent sky sentinel designed to monitor the sky in real time. This is more than a device. It’s the beginning of a global network watching the sky together. Support the project with a small pledge, grab a T-shirt, or become one of only 200 Early Adopters receiving the first SkySphere units before December 2026. Help us record the sky, detect drones, monitor anomalies, and build the future of real-time sky awareness. Join the network from the very beginning. kickstarter.com/projects/allpl…

For centuries, astronomy depended on brief moments of observation. A telescope points. An image is captured. Then the sky moves on. But discovery increasingly depends on persistence, continuity, and global awareness. That’s why we built SkySphere.

Walking through the streets of Toulouse tonight, the city where I grew up, while receiving messages from friends, colleagues, and family watching me on national French TV talking about extraterrestrial life… I can’t stop thinking about the 20-year-old version of myself who left this country believing I had no future here. Que de chemin parcouru.

Tonight I’m on national French TV talking about one of humanity’s biggest questions: are we alone in the Universe? 🌌👽 From SETI to real-time sky monitoring, we’re entering a new era where science can finally investigate the unknown with continuous global observations. SkyMapper CEO & @SETIInstitute Director of Citizen Science @AllPlanets is headed to @avax Summit in New York. The conversation got bigger. More builders focused on real infrastructure. Real systems. Real-world coordination. The future of astronomy won’t just be built in observatories anymore. It’s becoming part of a much larger conversation around AI, decentralized infrastructure, verifiable data, and globally connected networks.

People have always looked at the sky and wondered: “What was that?” That same spark of curiosity is what drives astronomers to keep looking up, mapping the sky, and trying to understand every object moving above us. When the SkyMapper team channeled that curiosity into a mission, it led to SkySphere. A 24/7 all-sky AI camera built to watch the sky continuously, detect satellites, meteors, aircraft, drones, and capture the things most people never even notice overhead.

Most people have no idea what happens above them after dark. Satellites crossing silently overhead. Meteors burning through the atmosphere. Aircraft moving through invisible corridors in the sky. Entire patterns unfolding while everyone sleeps. SkySphere watches it all. A 180° AI-powered sky camera built to live on your roof and turn the invisible sky into something you can finally see.

The sky is getting crowded. Satellites. Drones. Aircraft. Autonomous systems. Things moving faster and more often than ever before. But most people still have zero visibility into the airspace above them. SkySphere is a new kind of infrastructure: a real-time AI system that continuously watches the sky and alerts you the moment something enters it. And sometimes… it catches things nobody can explain yet. Pre-register and help build a planet-wide network watching the skies together. kickstarter.skymapper.io

What if the sky wasn’t something you looked at, but something you could move through? The SkyMapper network is open to anyone who wants to shift perspectives across continents. One moment you’re under your own sky, the next you’re tracing distant galaxies through someone else’s lens.

This article is worth reading, regardless of where you stand politically. Scientists are human beings. We have values, biases, fears, ambitions, and sometimes political agendas. Most scientists will resist pressure and defend the core principles of science: evidence, transparency, peer review, intellectual honesty, and independence. But some will allow ideology, careerism, or institutional caution to pollute scientific judgment. That danger exists on both sides of the political spectrum. When science becomes a tool to serve a political narrative, society loses. Progress slows. Trust erodes. Bad decisions follow. The good news is that these moments pass. The bad news is that the damage can last. So let’s not give up. Apply for committees. Read the reports. Watch what scientific institutions say and do. Publicly call out failures when they happen. Defend rigor, independence, and open debate. Be persistent. Be annoying if needed. Science survives because people keep protecting it. thenation.com/article/societ…
