@levelsbirder I saw the Winspit Wallcreeper on 25 Feb 1970. I was at Bath University at the time and talked a friend who had a car into driving us there. There was nobody else there, just the two of us.

OTD 18-Feb-1970: Wallcreeper at Worth Matravers, Dorset (Web photo by unknown). Hard to believe, but watched it fluttering up & down the ciff face with my then birding mate & just 4 others.

Staines Reservoir, Surrey, Sunday morning. Lesser Scaup South Basin, east end, close off the pipes. 2 Greater Scaup (MF) South Basin north west corner. Great Northern Diver North Basin. 2 Black-necked Grebe South Basin.

At least six Water Pipit on Staines Moor this morning, although photos ruined by the fog. I don't understand why I can't find this species in meadows along the River Wey in habitat that looks the same and is more extensive.

My Scilly trip has finished for another year. Highlights - Mourning Dove, Eyebrowed Thrush, American Pipit, Spotted Sandpiper, Wilson's Phal, Ortolan, Stone Curlew, Hoopoe, Rosefinch, Wryneck, Caspian Gull. Also saw the Steppe Grey Shrike yesterday at Mullion Cove on the way home

Finally caught up with the Mourning Dove on St Agnes, Isles of Scilly today, at the Threshing Mill. My thanks to all involved in arranging and giving the access.

An unsuccessful day today on Scilly trying to see Mourning Dove on St Agnes and so here are some photos from yesterday of the Hoopoe at Periglis, St Agnes.

I'm out on Scilly now. A few birds in Cornwall on Sunday on the way down. Isabelline Wheatear at Lands End Airport. Red-necked & Grey Palarope at Gwithian. Pectoral Sandpiper at Hayle Estuary. Photos of the last three.

Glossy Ibis from this morning at Queen Mother Reservoir, near Slough (permit required). Also 5 Ringed Plover and Peregrine there.

@sferguk A lot of my misspent youth was spent up on Staines Reservoir in the evenings. There were lots of us, it was quite a social gathering then and we used to get loads of fly over waders. I remember big flocks of Curlew and Whimbrel for instance.

I've never been on patch this late in the day EVER. Kinda weird tbh doesn't feel right. Lol Staines Res

I seem to be the messenger of bad news. Afraid Paul Dukes has been very ill recently and was found dead at home on Wednesday 25th June. There will be a small burial, family only.
