@KABAYANJA With Rice/Zubi, it's very obvious Rice is the 8. Same way it was with Vieira Gilberto, Pirlo, Gattuso, etc. Towards the end of his career, Fab actually played 6. Under both Conte and Mourinho, even with tactical changes he was always the deepest midfielder. The 10s were others.

@AllysonsJoe Fab was a 10 always has been. Viera was B2B Look at the Gilberto/Viera pair same way Rice/Zubimendi is. If you are not careful you may think Rice is a six. So thats how viera and Gilberto were.

10 is the creative striker 9 is the finisher 8 is the attacking midfielder (main role is to link the midfield and forwards often times decides the speed of the game) 6 is the Pivot. 5 commands the defence. 4 does all the donkey work in central defence.

@KABAYANJA Between Gilberto and Vieira, which one was B2B? I don't think Fab ever played 10 at Chealsea. If I remember right, he always had Schurle/Mata ahead of him. By then, he was pretty much a 6

@AllysonsJoe Actually no, Viera was a 6 and Gilberto silver 8. But in a 4:4:2 formation, the two can play interchangeably. Fabregas played as a 10, drink water was an 8 but played as a box to box player. Just like rice plays.

@KABAYANJA That's why I asked. Vieira and Kante were 8s. Not 6s. I could be wrong, but a 6, especially an elite one is of the Pirlo/Busquets mould. Even Vieira had Gilberto/Edu. Kante had Drinkwater/Matic/Fabregas/Jorginho

@adebisidejoke It depends on the formation. In a 4-4-2 or any variation of it, 10 would be a part of the front two as a CF or SS or even ST. 8 will always be a pure midfielder, mostly B2B. When you're thinking 8, think Vieira, Rice Gattuso. 10, Bergkamp, Ozil, Griezmann.

I swear in any other system aside Arteta’s, Gyokeres would be on 30 goals already this season. Is Arteta’s system elite? Yes! Is Arteta’s system the best for strikers who want to score goals? No! Two truths can coexist. Aubameyang literally proves this, he went from scoring 30 goals in a season before Arteta to scoring 10 goals under Arteta. His system is much better for failed midfielders turn strikers who just wants to hold the ball up and win aerial duels.
