Sierra Leone’s Foreign Minister Tim Musa Kabba has confirmed that Abubakarr Sillah, Assistant Director of Labour and Employment, has disappeared in the United States after traveling for the 2025 Diaspora Investment Conference in Maryland on August 8. Sillah, who was granted a visa for the event, has failed to return, becoming a clear example of the behavior that prompted U.S. visa restrictions on Sierra Leone. Officials say his case underscores the very violations that led to the suspension of certain visa categories. A #Zambian national Miriam Shamane was arrested at Freetown International Airport on November 16, 2025, after suspected cocaine was found hidden in her luggage during routine screening. She was intercepted before boarding an Ethiopian Airlines flight. Security officials from multiple agencies examined the items and handed her and the evidence to police. Maryland Man Charged in Fatal Stabbing of Virginia Woman (Sierra Leonean nationals ) 🇸🇱🎤 A Maryland man has been charged with Second-Degree Murder after police say he drove to Northern Virginia and fatally stabbed a woman. Fairfax County Police identified the suspect as Musa Kargbo, 42, and the victim as 26-year-old Isha Koroma of Alexandria. Officers found Koroma with upper-body trauma on Terrace Drive in Annandale on November 7. Police say the two knew each other. Kargbo was arrested in Lanham, Maryland, and awaits extradition. #sierraleonenews

#Turkish Authorities Extradite Man with Alleged Sierra Leone Diplomatic Passport! Turkey has released photos of Abdullah Alp Üstün, alias Don Vito, extradited from Dubai on an Interpol Red Notice over alleged cocaine trafficking, bribery, and other crimes. Media reports say Üstün, brother-in-law of drug baron Bolle Jos, allegedly obtained a Sierra Leone diplomatic passport through Jos’s influence. #SierraLeone’s Information Minister says the government is investigating the claim.
