When lifted, it revealed the remarkably preserved skeleton of a man buried directly beneath it. The burial likely dates to late 13th or early 14th Century AD, and was part of a cemetery connected to Gdańsk’s earliest wooden church. The knight, about 40 years old and 5 foot 6, was clearly a man of status, though his exact identity remains a mystery. The stone and remains have been moved to the city’s Archaeological Museum, where experts plan advanced testing including genetic analysis and even possible facial reconstruction.
