IS YOUR BREAST PRODUCING MILK WHEN YOU ARE NOT PREGNANT OR BREASTFEEDING? IT IS CALLED GALACTORRHEA. When the Body Whispers in Milk: And Other Quiet Truths We Forget to Hear Dear Women, Come a little closer. Let me cradle your questions the way one holds a fragile truth gently, thoughtfully, and with the kind of tenderness that does not rush. Someone asked, and i paraphrase...'Is it normal for your breasts to produce milk when you are not pregnant or breastfeeding?' And the answer, is layered like most truths women learn about their bodies only after fear has kmnocked first. Yes, it can be normal. And no, it does not always spell danger. Sometimes the body simply whispers before it speaks, and milk where milk was not expected is one of those whispers. So sit with me. Let me explain this the way I would if you were sitting across from me in my clinic. First, breathe, because galactorrhoea is far more common than we admit. Many women experience it at least once, and the silence around it makes it seem stranger than it is. And here is a soft truth wrapped in calm. About 30% of girls with raised prolactin levels will notice milk discharge. So no, she is not odd. And no, she is not broken. She is simply human, and gloriously so. Why does it happen? Because the body is a storyteller and hormones are its metaphors. To women, Your breasts obey prolactin, the gentle hormone that calls milk into being. And when prolactin rises even slightly, the breasts respond like a well-trained choir. Here are the common causes ● Raised prolactin (hyperprolactinaemia). Sometimes because of Stress (the emotional, invisible kind). Certain medication. Pituitary gland changes like prolactinomas. Low thyroid function ● Nipple or chest wall stimulation A bra that hugs too tightly. Hands that wander during intimacy. Even friction, subtle, persistent. ● Hormonal imbalances: Like PCOS or irregular ovulation. ● Very early pregnancy. Sometimes the body knows before you do. ● Rarer causes. Kidney issues, liver issues, or herbs like fenugreek whispering to your hormones. Because the body is always speaking, and we are simply learning how to listen. What next? (The RCOG-guided path, walked with calm steps) We begin with gentleness and curiosity, not fear. A pregnancy test, always the first soft rule-out. Blood tests, to check prolactin, thyroid, kidneys, and other hormones if needed. A review of your medications, because some quietly nudge prolactin upward. Imaging (only if necessary), an MRI if prolactin is markedly raised or if headaches or vision changes appear. And management? Stress-related, reassurance and lifestyle care. High prolactin, dopamine agonists. Thyroid issues, treat the thyroid. Medication-related, consider safer alternatives Mild, non-problematic discharge time, patience, and no nipple squeezing, because stimulating it feeds the cycle When should you seek urgent help? If you notice: Blood-stained discharge, A breast lump, Severe headaches or vision changes, Very high prolactin, Unexpected menstrual changes. These are the body’s louder knocks, and we do not ignore them. And finally, Her body is not betraying her. It is not acting strangely. It is simply sending a message, and messages lose their fear when someone helps you read them.

“This video is a plea to all Nigerians. Our voices are not loud enough because not everyone is speaking about this issue. I watched the video of the kidn@pp£d Oyo schoolchildren and teachers yesterday, and it brøke my heart. They are trying to distract us so that we do not speak with one voice because they know that once everyone starts speaking out, the pressure will be too much to ignore.” — Spyro publicly appeals to Wizkid, Davido, Burna Boy and many others to lend their voices about the kidn@pped schoolchildren.

Cervical cancer kills about 8,000 women in Nigeria every year, even though it is a disease that the HPV vaccine can prevent. Nkechi said she’s covered by the blood of Jesus so she doesn’t need any vaccine. But Nkechi has forgotten that God gave us doctors too. Faith and medicine are not enemies, they are teammates. If prevention exists and you can access it, using it is not a lack of faith. It’s wisdom. Get the HPV vaccine and tell a woman you love to get it too. Retweet, so more people see this.

Have you gotten the HPV vaccine? If not, what is stopping you? And when are you planning to get it?
