Can’t get my head around the Wirtz situation. £120m player, benched yesterday, and we still don’t seem to know how to use him. Not quick or physical enough for the wing, hasn’t influenced games enough centrally either. Was this a Hughes signing or a Slot idea?

@eddiegibbs As for Gakpo, he’s not a pacey winger, he’s not a centre forward, & he’s most definitely not a £250k a week player. I’d ship him out, along with Frimpong. Slot tries to fit them in but they aren’t what we need. Square pegs in round holes.

The applause for Jordan Henderson and Caoimhin Kelleher carried genuine warmth too. For a few moments, the bitterness of this dreadful season was set aside and Anfield remembered what pride once felt like. Yet the football itself dragged everyone back into reality soon enough. Another shapeless, spiritless afternoon from a Liverpool side that has spent most of the season looking confused by its own existence. Cody Gakpo led the line here and barely touched the ball. Last week it was Isak, before him Ekitike, disappearing into the fog of a system clueless how to deploy a central striker. Slow possession, sterile patterns, no incision, no authority. Mid-table football in everything but the bare minimum league position that had to be achieved, in other seasons 60 points doesn't get you a Champions League place, Liverpool have been lucky. That 1-1 draw felt entirely fitting. Liverpool have been limping through months of mediocrity and the results merely mirror the performances. If this carries into next season under Arne Slot, mid-table is exactly where this club is heading. The post-match farewells were moving, but there was a telling detail in the choreography. No microphone handed to Salah or Robertson on the pitch. Sensible perhaps. The risk of honesty hanging in the air was probably too great. Then came more vague talk afterwards about evolution, style, injuries and patience, the same hail-Mary talk that has surrounded this team and Slot for months. More spin, more deflection, more attempts to persuade supporters not to trust their own eyes. The hope now is simple. Let the media management end. Let the hierarchy make the only tangible decision that matters. Let this farewell be remembered as the final act of a glorious Liverpool era, the building block for the next one, and not the beginning of a long decline.

@eddiegibbs I think it will be a decline that will last some time & from where we were that is down to THREE people - Edwards, Hughes & Slot. Poor decisions made by all of them. Slot only knows this style of play, he said that 12m ago. He will go, it’s just a question of time.

Subbing Mohamed Salah off in the 73rd minute of his final game for Liverpool for Jeremie Frimpong is exactly why Arne Slot can get right out of here. Why? Let him play the game out, let him get his goal. If you want to take him off, do it in the 90th minute. Horrendous, that.

@AnfieldEdition Treated appallingly by Slot. Any footballer who had 2 PL starts in 2 years would be rusty. Never had a run in the team. Singled out as shit by some but look at the crap others have played eg Gakpo.

Know it’s minor in the grand scheme of things but disappointing that Fede didn’t get the chance to get a few minutes on the pitch and say goodbye to Anfield.

@anfieldforge Wirtz id Give a 6/10, 4 is a bit harsh if you look at the assist stats, moments of brilliance but to be fair Slot hasn’t played to his strengths. Isak, yeah, total season to forget.

Liverpool 25/26 signings ratings: Mamardashvili – 6/10 Has been solid overall and probably could’ve been even better, but he’s spent most of the season behind an absolutely horrible defence and has basically been our number two. Frimpong – 5/10 Still genuinely don’t know what he is. Is he a right back, is he a right winger? Doesn’t really look convincing in either role and defensively he gets targeted constantly. Leoni – 2/10 Looked very good in his debut, then got injured and missed basically the entire season. Harsh maybe, but if you only get half a game all year from a signing, it’s a poor season overall. Kerkez – 6/10 Started the season like a complete headless chicken. Improved as the season went on and settled into it better, but never really set the world alight. Wirtz – 4/10 Extremely underwhelming considering the fee. No real standout MOTM performances, nowhere near enough goals or assists for the money spent and games just pass him by too often. Ekitike – 7/10 Only signing that’s genuinely been good. Very exciting player, flashes real quality and unpredictability, but still looks raw at times and drifts in and out of games. Isak – 1/10 Awful signing. Turned up unfit, couldn’t get fit, then broke his leg and somehow still looked unfit afterwards. Absolute disaster of a season.

My thoughts on that :👇 ° Slot is one if the luckiest managers in football to get another season after the season he has just produced, another below par performance today. ° Salah assist was world class, he ends with 23 goal contributions in his supposed "demise" season will be a brilliant free signing for someone. ° Robertson was impressive as usual, greatest Liverpool LB ever, like Salah will be a great free signing for someone. ° Gravenberch has been awful this season, can't be our starting 6 next season, new 6 has to be priority this Summer. ° I'd offload Gakpo if we got a 30 million plus offer, you won't even know he was playing today. ° Can't sell Alisson still the best goalkeeper in the Premier League ° Jones will be a loss if he goes, his celebration would suggest he is off, has done a good job at RB. ° MacAllister has had a really poor season, his performance today was underwhelming again. ° Frimpong can't be Salah replacement. ° We should never have sold Kelleher he is a far more like for like replacement for Alisson. ° Henderson legs are clearly gone mad he is going to World Cup. Best I can say about this season is I'm absolutely delighted it's over 🙌
