This conspiracy has always held a special place in my heart.
It was the first time I realized that you can pull just about any thread in this world and find a dark and horrible secret.
I was working at an office and I was horrified by printer ink costs and was really annoying me how we always ran out of different ink cartridges.
I got the idea that any "excess" color could be used to supplement the black ink so that all cartridges are depleted at the same rate.
I quickly found out that printer drivers are not as simple as they seem, and you can't arbitrarily control the inkjets.
This is one of many examples of how we secretly live in a planned economy.
While the free market could have made printing cheap and abundant, few people even bother buying printers anymore, as the police state has spent decades subsidizing an anti-consumer line of artificially shitty products.
These subtle pressures can trivialize a market, leaving the illusion of a free market with the compounding inefficiency of a planned economy.
The CIA even has a VC firm called In-Q-Tel which they use specifically to ensure that they get to pick winners and losers in the tech industry.
Until we restore the free market (and all of its consequences), our markets will continue to devolve into these soviet-style oligopolies.
