When Jesus spoke of eating His flesh in John 6, He had already given the crowd an indication that He was has speaking figuratively. Earlier, in verses 32–33, Jesus had called Himself bread, comparing Himself with the manna in the wilderness. When the people asked to be given that bread, Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty” (John 6:35). As if to clear up any misunderstanding, Jesus then distinguishes the physical from the spiritual: “It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh is no help at all. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life” (John 6:63, ESV).

@hookskat "a kingdom divided cannot stand" There's a reason why the whole world innately hates the God of the Bible. You essentially have two kingdoms- God's kingdom of light, and Satan's kingdom of darkness that has blinded the world. In which all other beliefs come from.

I don't disagree with that, but I think the framing of "Christian nation" is less of a proclamation and more of a goal. Kind of like if you say it enough the ideology will become more normalized - versus secularism. But largely we are a "more" Christian nation than the rest of world who persecutes Christians more openly.

Nobody at all is good. Even Jesus denied being a "good" teacher. And... in the words of St. Jerome (if memory serves) - "love should be full of anger"... Well, mine is. As we proclaim ourselves a "Christian Nation" we sink deeper and deeper into the cesspool of monstrous sin. I drive around America - what's thriving? Casinos. Massage parlors. Vape shops. Etc. Meanwhile, in faraway lands, we murder people to make ourselves feel strong. America is deep in Satan's power.

@_OKJ__ The question is how many coincidences do you believe in. Example: there are 8 primary blood types, and there were 8 people on Noah's Ark. Evidence is everywhere and in everything, but the atheist belief requires skeptism to a degree that makes them blind.

@PurpleUSA2025 @darwintojesus True, but that's also why we need to love people as Christ loves us through our shortcomings. Love doesn't give permission to sin, but says inspite of it - I will walk with your through it. Paul even says, "nothing good dwells in me, that is, my flesh".

@PurpleUSA2025 @darwintojesus Ironically the most misused idea of prayer is people treating God like a transaction: "if you do this, then I'll do this", but the way Jesus displayed it was more of an alignment of his will in our lives. The alignment of his heart with ours, his desires become our desires.

@AmorProximi @darwintojesus Exactly. And his ways are not our ways. His laws are not our laws. We were told this, explicitly. And yet - like every other doomed civilization - we invoke divine authority for human rule. God will answer this.

@PurpleUSA2025 @darwintojesus Jeremiah 17:9, "The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it?" The sinful nature of man is definitely undesirable, but that just points me more to the mercy, love and grace of God - that inspite of our shortcomings He loves us.

@PurpleUSA2025 @darwintojesus You're assuming you know the mind of God? I won't deny many of the wars we have waged lacked justification from a carnal perspective. And you're not wrong, the punishment poured out on the unbelieving whole world will be worse than anyone can fathom.

You're invoking God in an effort to legitimize the government. And there are - potentially - just wars. Not any of the ones we fight, though. Basically, we commit mass murder in order to make ourselves feel powerful and righteous. And then we invoke the name of God. There will be a reckoning.

"One nation under God" literally means we are submitting to his authority. (Obviously as sinner is we don't always) But we are acknowledging his authority which honors God's name. Likewise, "God bless America" is a request not a statement. God also not not anti-war - Jesus literally comes back wielding a sword. He also commanded the Israelites all throughout the old testament to wipe entire groups out who were sacrificing babies (like we do today)...

"Thus, taking the Lord’s name in vain refers to any use that empties God’s name of its holiness, authenticity, or truth." Exactly. "One nation under GOD", "God Bless AMERICA", and, of course, the recent rebranding of our military into a Department of WAR, with a secretary who boasts about "CHRISTIAN WARRIORS" - all of that. “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter." - Gospel of Matthew, some or other chapter.

@drskeptick Not entirely - we're talking about RNA which is literally code like computer code. If we found an alien computer floating through space that had clear intelligent design and purpose, we would say, "wow we found signs of alien life".

@AmorProximi That’s argument from personal incredulity, things complex therefore designer. It doesn’t work like that in scientific realm, if we don’t know the exact cause, we keep looking to bridge that gap in understanding, rather than plugging in the hole with generic god of religion

The phrase “in vain” comes from a Hebrew word suggesting emptiness, worthlessness, or falsehood. Thus, taking the Lord’s name in vain refers to any use that empties God’s name of its holiness, authenticity, or truth. What you're doing is technically taking the Lord's name in vain. "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." Romans 10:13

@AmorProximi @darwintojesus Today's believers mock God every time they mention him. Whenever you use the name of the Lord, it is in vain. And he will hold you accountable unless you repent. Don't say you weren't warned.

My point is that life doesn't come from non-life, even the most basic molecules and building blocks for life don't exist without life. Homochiral sugars, ribose or nucleotides, etc. Life clearly has design, which means a designer. Code meticulously written and organized for the most complex machines on earth.

@AmorProximi @darwintojesus Again, eat shit. In our era, the typical athiest is closer to the will of the God he disbelieves in, than is the believer. God loves us but he will not be mocked, and this post? Yeah. It's mocking God to his face.

@PurpleUSA2025 @darwintojesus Not at all - I don't have these discussions because I want to be right - it's because I love you and don't want you to perish. Life is too short to go to war over temporary things like politics. But fighting for the salvation of an individual that God loves - sure.

Quod scripsi, scripsi. Posts like the OP here don't bring anyone into belief in God in the first place. But then - that's not the point. It's all culture war bullshit, 100% of it. And the fact that this culture war bullshit is the central preoccupation of people who profess to "believe in God" (what, is God going to give you a GOLD STAR or something? "oh, you BELIEVED in me, GOOD MORTAL!") makes posts like this one pretty fucking toxic. So, basically, go fuck yourself.

In 1859, Darwin wrote: “If it could ever be demonstrated that any complex organ existed, which could not possibly have been formed by numerous, successive, slight modifications, my theory would absolutely break down. But I can find out no such case.” What Darwin thought a cell looked like VS now.
