Hungarians are a free people. Your struggle for freedom does not entitle you to blackmail us or dictate terms to us. Please make your president understand that the state terrorism with which he blew up the Germans’ Nordstream gas pipeline will not work against Hungary. Let me remind you that when the war broke out, we welcomed your refugees. We gave them shelter, food, and safety. I ordered the launch of Ukrainian-language schools for your children, something that you deny to Hungarians in Transcarpathia. It is a shame that today the national minority rights of Hungarians in Ukraine are narrower than they were in the old, bad days. I thank God that the country you are now at war with is not an enemy of Hungary or the Hungarian people, and we have no intention of changing that. We still wish to remain your friends, but we will not take part in your war. Therefore, I ask you to accept that we will send neither money, nor weapons, nor soldiers to your war. I wish that your fratricidal war will not end with the fatal weakening of the Ukrainian state, and that we may return to the old spirit of Ukrainian-Hungarian friendship. How dare President Zelensky threaten 🇭🇺 Hungary’s Prime Minister? ‼️ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE‼️ While asking the European Union for money and weapons, Kyiv now resorts to threats — even saying “we will give @PM_ViktorOrban’s address to our armed forces.” Hungary will not be intimidated. We will not give our money, we will not send our young people to war, and Hungarian families will not pay higher energy prices for this conflict. Any Ukraine-Russia peace plan has to: 1) Stop the killing while preserving Ukrainian sovereignty. 2) Be acceptable to both Russia and Ukraine. 3) Maximize the chances the war doesn't restart. Every criticism of the peace framework the administration is working on either misunderstands the framework or misstates some critical reality on the ground. There is a fantasy that if we just give more money, more weapons, or more sanctions, victory is at hand. Peace won't be made by failed diplomats or politicians living in a fantasy land. It might be made by smart people living in the real world.

Dear @SwedishPM, Sweden is our friend. The Swedish people are our friends. But your government is no friend of Hungary. A quick reminder: 1. You intervened against Hungary in the child protection law infringement case. 2. You intervened against Hungary in the sovereignty protection law infringement case. 3. You voted to exclude most Hungarian universities from Erasmus & Horizon and to freeze more than half of our EU funds. 4. You intervened against Hungary in court when we challenged the Commission’s discriminatory Erasmus/Horizon decision. 5. You continuously push the next phase of Article 7, with your minister even making remarks such as: “We must raise our voice to the child.” 6. Your EU-minister vowed to “put additional pressure on Hungary”, simply because we do not support Ukraine’s EU accession. 7. You were among the governments that pushed the Migration Pact through, despite the previous Council decision that called for unanimity regarding this very sensitive subject. This puts Hungary’s security at direct risk. In Hungary, we would call this behaviour many things, but friendly is certainly not one of them. Every country has its problems. In Sweden, migration is one. Yet unlike you, we do not meddle in the sovereignty or internal affairs of others, and do not lecture other countries - we do, however, continue to worry for you and the Swedish people. Following up on the meeting in Turkiye on May 16, the world expected the Russian side to formulate and deliver to Ukraine and its partners a “memorandum” outlining their vision for steps toward a ceasefire. Unfortunately, the Russian side attempted to delay this process. But pressure worked. After firm statements from President Trump, European leaders, and President Zelenskyy — demonstrating that the world is united around the goal of peace for Ukraine — the Russians finally informed us they had finished drafting their “memorandum.” However, they continue to delay the delivery of the document. I handed over our document to the head of the Russian delegation, which reflects the Ukrainian position. They received this document. We reaffirm Ukraine’s readiness for a full and unconditional ceasefire and continued diplomatic engagement. We are not opposed to further meetings with the Russians and are awaiting their “memorandum,” so that the meeting won’t be empty and can truly move us closer to ending the war. The Russian side has at least four more days before their departure to provide us with their document for review. Ukraine has always been, and will always remain, as constructive as possible. Meetings between the sides must produce results. That’s why each meeting must be properly prepared. The Russian side promised to hand over the “memorandum” immediately after the exchange. We call on them to fulfill that promise without delay and stop trying to turn the meeting into a destructive one. Diplomacy must be substantive, and the next meeting must yield results.
