@ZackPolanski One person’s debt is another person’s income. Where do you think the money for a private pension comes from? Anyway, once we’ve paid back the 3 trillion pounds we’ve borrowed, we can forget about the bond markets. But until then…

We must stop being in hock only to the bond markets.
No one voted for the bond markets.

"It's also time to take on the bond markets [...] Time for progressives to hold our nerve. Our policies cannot be dictated by the billionaires. [...] The bond markets are not ideological, they just want to know there is a plan." Leader of the Green Party @ZackPolanski #ChangeNOW 🤝

You can ride a bicycle
across six Japanese islands.
43 miles of ocean below you.
Six giant suspension bridges
built specifically for cyclists.
You start in Hiroshima.
You finish in Ehime.
Along the way:
sleepy fishing villages,
lemon farms,
soft-serve ice cream stands at every port,
the sea breeze in every direction.
Not a race.
Not a tour.
Just you, a bike,
and an entire chain of islands
the country built a road over
so anyone could see them.
It might be the best ride on Earth.

@holland_tom A dedicated series on The Rest IsHistory about the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World would be fascinating. In particular, a programme on theory by Stephanie Dalley that the gardens were in Nineveh would make for an excellent episode!

@jaynemesis That’s very good news, but electricity is still only a part of the energy picture. Currently, solar & wind still only meet around 16% of the UK’s overall energy needs. We still need gas, jet fuel, petrochemicals etc.

Surprise, surprise @wesstreeting is on @BBCr4today bashing landlords. I’ve got news for you mate, we can’t have a “productive nation” without people having homes, so if you want to tax Landlords to hell, I’d build some alternative accommodation first ‘cos you’re going to need it.

“Argentina was once as rich as Germany and richer than France. It isn’t anymore.”
In a generally excellent essay this is the most important line. Everybody expects Britain to muddle through no matter how poor our leaders are. There is no - zero - reason to believe this is true.

This is a highly original, brilliantly written and disturbingly persuasive piece by @PMarlowe1939 about bond markets, and how nations 'in hock' to them have to navigate fiscal policy differently. Highly recommended reading. thecritic.co.uk/im-worried-abo…

@CCHQPress @reformparty_uk @Makerfield_RFK Care to explain why people like me stopped voting for the Conservative Party?

Care to explain what Robert had his Twitter account suspended for?

Makerfield was Andy Burnham’s back up plan. For Robert Kenyon, it’s his home. This battle will be David Vs Goliath.

@techtoby__ You sold it for £309k not £600k. We all need a place to live, but - for most of the time - property is a very poor investment.

@AndrewImrie25 That would be 129%. My equity return is 180%. Cool, my house outperformed the index tracker

@MerrynSW Socialism has to be authoritarian because you are taking money from productive people and giving to unproductive people. And because working people are less than happy with this arrangement, it has to be enforced through tough measures & intimidation.
