Haven't posted for #FossilFriday in a long time, and I'm a day late - oh well! Large semionotid fish, maybe Lophionotus @gombessagirl. From the Lower #Jurassic Moenave Formation @stgeorgedino in SW #Utah. This is one of 100+ specimens going into new exhibits under construction.

A very cool new 🦕paper led by Adams et al! Among the most famous of dinosaur tracks, the 'swimming sauropod' tracks collected by RT Bird from Texas in 1940 aren't actually swimming traces according to this new study! ('25 is shaping up to be a year for cool 🦕trace studies...)

My predecessor as State Paleontologist, Dave Gillette passed away on Feb. 10th. He will be missed. He oversaw the excavation of the Huntington Mammoth. @PrehistoricMus @PaleoSoc @utahgeological

#FossilFriday Another phytosaur skull collected by our team from the lowermost Church Rock Member, Chinle Formation in SW Utah in 2022. Our @stgeorgedino Jim Williams is doing an excellent job with the prep!

For #FossilFriday here’s part of the type specimen of the Zimbabwean dinosaur Syntarsus, housed in the NHMZ, one of the most abundantly and well preserved early theropods known currently 🦖🇿🇼

@stgeorgedino we are still looking for help with funding and crews to excavate an ~1/2 acre of bone beds in the Early #Jurassic (~200 million). We need big excavation equipment. Check out fossils and how you can help in the images attached.

We need help with excavation of bone beds at the St. George Dinosaur Discovery Site in SW Utah. We need heavy excavation equipment to move a large fossil-rich rock pile and in place rock above the bone beds. The City will break ground for an electrical substation in early April.

@Paleojim @BeneskiMuseum @mtoscanini510 @AndrewTracks Hey Jim, this one is from the famous Hitchcock Collection, found locally to the Beneski Museum in the Connecticut River Valley. If it helps, I touched upon this one in LOCKED IN TIME when discussing the St George Site.

Who sat here?! Well, this mark was produced by a dinosaur sitting down. Its feet are flat on the ground, and the dinosaur’s ischia or hip bones make a circular imprint at the bottom. #FossilFriday

@BeneskiMuseum @mtoscanini510 Where is that sitting theropod from! It looks just like part of a loose slab just above waterline (@ the time, 15 years ago) in the Lower Jurassic Kayenta Fm. at Lake Powell that we recommended salvaging. @AndrewTracks Did that ever happen?

I know we are all very proud of contributing to chapter 6! What an incredible group of people to work with assembling this massive chapter right through the holidays last year. Fantastic leadership by John Foster keeping us organized! #Jurassic #ichnology #paleontology
