If the Chagos surrender is dead, this is a great victory. One day there should be an inquiry into this shabby saga: the Ministers and officials, under Labour and the Tories, who tried to sell Britain out. Shameful.
Steven Swinford@Steven_Swinford

EXCLUSIVE Sir Keir Starmer has been forced to drop legislation which would cede sovereignty of the Chagos Islands to Mauritius in a further deterioration of relations with Donald Trump The Times has been told that a bill underpinning the controversial deal will not be included in the King's Speech next month after the US president branded it an "act of great stupidity" and withdrew his support The government stands by the deal and will attempt to persuade Trump to change his mind but has acknowledged that it cannot proceed without his backing Ministers are "deeply frustrated" with Trump, who initially supported the deal after extensive discussions between intelligence agencies but changed his mind during a dispute with Nato over plans to seize Greenland The government believes that it puts the future of Diego Garcia, the UK-US base in the islands which has been used during the Iran war, at risk It is concerned that Mauritius will mount a legal challenge granting it access to the waters around Diego Garcia, making it harder for the base to host nuclear submarines and patrol surrounding waters The deal was highly contentious. It would have seen Britain hand over the islands to Mauritius before immediately entering into a 99-year lease for Diego Garcia. The government claimed it would cost £3.5billion, although the Tories disputed this and said it would cost £35billion his over its lifetime. thetimes.com/uk/politics/ar…

Londoners, why will you vote MAY 7? Crime feels out of control. Services aren’t working. Costs keep rising. Everything keeps getting worse. If you vote the same, what changes? Vote Reform, May 7

@PahlaviReza They also put your father into power. How the revolution in 79 may have ended up being hijacked by the islamic fundamentalists, but it started because they wanted democracy. You think the people of Iran should have another corrupt monarchy?

The United Kingdom has endlessly appeased the criminal regime in Iran. The Prime Minister speaks of protecting the innocent civilians of Iran but failed to act to help stop the regime’s massacre of 40,000 innocent Iranians in January. Only an end to this regime - that brings terror to Britain’s own shores - will yield lasting peace and regional stability. Keir Starmer should follow in the footsteps of Churchill, not Chamberlain. He should support the Iranian people’s fight for liberty. The Iranian people will remember who stood with them in their hour of need and who stood against them. There is still time for the Government to change course: prosecute the IRGC that slaughters innocents, expel the illegitimate regime's ambassador, and act to support the people of Iran.

The two-week ceasefire between the United States and Iran today is welcomed by the UK and our allies. The goal now must be a lasting end to the war. Alongside our international partners, the UK will work to ensure a return to freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.

@DalrympleWill Totally agree. Very ineffective gaslighting. Someone with a real grasp of Middle East politics is needed. We know what Russia is, we know we can live and trade with China. The Middle East is a powder keg that needs continual dampening.

Rep. Nancy Mace says she has seen the Epstein client list and warns that the names on it will shock the entire world. She adds, as a Republican, that the DOJ is protecting those identities. According to Mace, the list includes both Republicans and Democrats, along with wealthy elites, media figures, people in power, and even current and former prime ministers and presidents. She says the Epstein case will go down as one of the greatest cover-ups in American history.

Should there be bigger fines for walkers who don't properly dispose of their dog's poo? It's becoming a menace at Hadrian's Wall, where the Roman fortifications are under threat from bags of dog poo stuffed into cracks of the historic wall. Should the £100 fines be bigger?

@henri_fjord @TuckerCarlson Carlson doesn't care about this weirdo. Trump is a alme duck as of the Mid terms. Carlson will be looking to run himself at some point or mentor someone like Vance. Basically trump and this fuckwit Loomer have a very short shelf life.

Illegal traveller sites blight our communities. But laws to remove them were blocked by the European Convention on Human Rights. We’ll stop this by leaving the ECHR and ending two tier justice.

Has Britain become a freeloader’s paradise? A working family of four will pay £111 for a trip to the Tower of London, or £108 to visit London Zoo. But with one parent on Universal Credit (UC) that drops to just £4 and £26 respectively. Michael Simmons says that on its own, UC is not particularly generous by international standards, but health-related top-ups transform the picture, while it is Britain's failure to incentivise people back to work that makes us stand out. @Simmons__
