Hello Friends, A personal update: A while back, I was diagnosed with multiple myeloma cancer. I’ve been undergoing treatment and I'm hopeful. In the coming weeks, I'm taking time off to undergo a stem cell transplant. Look forward to seeing you on the radio again very soon! DW

@iowahawkblog Luck Reunion is a blast. Love the Honeysuckle Rose touring bus. His son Lukas used it for several years after Willie moved on to a newer nondescript Prevost.

Living in Austin provides some opportunities for Willie related car spotting; like the 1950 Mercury lead sled in #1 at 310 Willie Nelson Boulevard (a/k/a Austin City Limits Live at the Moody Theater). Sadly, there is no 420 Willie Nelson Boulevard. And despite that, until last month I had never in my life seen Willie play live. That was rectified thanks to my young guitar twanger son. who was in town to perform at SXSW and record at Willie Nelson's studio. Details of that project will emerge later this year. Anyhoo, Hawkspawn took pity on the old man and provided me with an "I'm with the band" pass for the Luck Reunion show at Willie's Luck Ranch and studio, where I got to see Willie perform live (he's still got it), and one of his aforementioned notorious "Honeysuckle Rose" Eagle tour buses. A very happy early birthday from #DavesCarIDService to the Lone Star State's favorite son, the ageless Willie Nelson, who turns 92 years young on Tuesday. Shown here in 1965 sporting a proto-beard with Faron Young, and a 1955 Chevy stock car painted "Hello Walls." Title of a hit song Willie wrote for Faron, and one he also recorded himself. At the time he was a successful songwriter in Nashville but was frustrated with the Nashville corporate music system and in recording his own music as he saw fit. In 1972 he turned on, tuned, and dropped out back to his native Texas, creating his own Outlaw Country scene in Austin that set Nashville on its ear. So raise a glass, or maybe a phat blunt, and give a happy birthday salute to Willie - the non-conformist's non-conformist, and a Texas National Treasure.
