@carlmchambers @AnglicanFutures Having been his curate at Emmanuel for three years I’m so sorry for not doing more to stop him. He was in many ways one of the ‘untouchables’ at the time but I saw enough problems in his behaviour that I should have done more. It’s time all of us who were around him said so.

@DanLeafe1 @AnglicanFutures No I’m very saddened by the decline in the standard of their care for victims since the original review. It’s a marked departure from their previous stance in all the ways you outline. I can only assume it’s to protect themselves from reputational damage or legal liability.

@AnglicanFutures gave notice of this post to Emmanual Church, Wimbledon, where Jonathan Fletcher was long-term vicar so they could address criticisms of their statement if they wished. Over a week later- no response public or private. Is this acceptable? anglicanfutures.org/post/have-any-…

@lisapastygirl @sleafe97 @AndyByfield_22 I similarly asked Oak Hill to use GRACE for a culture review. I also asked for the review to be made public if they commissioned it. Neither happened. Instead they used someone with no understanding of power differences or bullying, who admits he didn't fact check anything.

@S_E_Tooth @sleafe97 @AndyByfield_22 Thanks for sharing Sydney, it's heartening to me to hear that you raised it. But I know it's crushing to realise, fast or slow, that the pursuit of truth, justice and repentance is not at the heart of this network.

@AndyByfield_22 @sleafe97 Ah no, not re-traumatising. We value the work of GRACE very highly. Almost feels like a different life now those months/years we spent trying to raise concerns & propose healthier ways forward. I'm glad we tried atleast.

@sleafe97 @AndyByfield_22 I've gone down a rabbit hole now, we were also told "the main issue was the extent to which [Tim&I] thought ECW should rely on external advice to address it's problems as to the extent it should be sorting out its own solutions". I'd blacked a lot of this out!

@sleafe97 @AndyByfield_22 We asked Emmanuel to commission GRACE to help the church in aftermath of JF abuse and set up a call for them but the response was a no from Emmanuel, reason given they "were not familiar with the Church of England structure, dioscecan framework and safeguarding requirements" 🫠

@lisapastygirl @sleafe97 I’m sorry if it’s re-traumatising you Lisa. I quoted the Grace post simply because it highlighted the problem of unrepentant leaders. I always had grave concerns about ECW marking its own homework so to speak 😢

I do wish I could convince everyone that I'm not trying to invalidate their own experiences of worship. I'm just quite sad about some things and a bit angry about some other things and none of this is meant to be starting an argument

Having hopped back on Twitter to follow this and what is happening with Dane Ortlund (sadly similar patterns) I'm now seeing things on Josh Howerton... it's all the same story.

@DanLeafe1 Destruction is the right word. I spent hours driving around in those early months after the news broke sobbing. It was agony, a real grief. I know many others experienced the same and worse.

"... the absolute destruction we felt at JF’s betrayal." That's heartbreaking. It makes me so cross at those who repeatedly minimised Jonathan Fletcher’s abuse because 'it wasn't as bad as' wasn't 'criminal', '...needed to be seen in context' etc when it was so 'destructive'.
