Reading this little beauty whilst on holiday. Kudos to @AndyMitten & the team for the excellent Carrick interview, fills me with confidence that we have the right man in charge going into the new season.
@petermaurice22@henrywinter You’re wrong, have a look at the video. Quansah didn’t go in 2 footed. His left leg was at 90 degrees to his body. His right boot was showing studs but he hit the ball first and deflected a glancing blow on to the Mexican’s leg. It was no where near a straight on hit.
Another poor penalty at the World Cup — this time from Kylian Mbappe. The curse of the stuttered run-up strikes again.
After being tripped by Morocco's Noussair Mazraou, who was bamboozled by Mbappe's skill, the France captain had to wait over three minutes to take his penalty.
His attempt was weak and saved with relative ease by Yassine Bounou. A reprieve for Morocco — Mbappe was not happy with the delay.
A belated hydration break followed but it's a real wake-up call for Morocco.
@petermaurice22@henrywinter You’re having a laugh. It wouldn’t but if it did an appeal could be made. FIFA have set themselves up as judge and jury with no right of appeal. It’s not justice it’s vindictiveness.
@henrywinter If that was prem league it would be deemed serious foul play and 3 game ban. I do find it odd that no appeal process available. I mean how can anyone now trust FIFA. Made a rod for themselves there.

I forwarded the e-mail to Virgin’s phishing e-mail address and received a reply saying because the phishing e-mail didn’t originate from one of their addresses I should contact the sender myself to get more info.
I can only think Virgin employ morons in that department.
@MartinSLewis 1/2
No gripes with Virgin’s BB and TV services as they work, for me at least, 99% of the time but customer service is shocking. I recently received a scam e-mail advising my account would be closed unless I clicked the link to pay what was owed.
Oh the irony. Virgin now proved to have been screwing the nation over broadband, and stopped people fixing. Nice to see Ofcom showing teeth with the fine. Lets hope that starts a trend.
The appeals just keep coming:
France have appealed to FIFA to request Michael Olise’s yellow card against Paraguay is rescinded.
Increasingly feels like FIFA have lost control of their World Cup here.

@TheGov74@TelegraphDucker Those are the rules and sometimes players are suspended for multiple matches. It happens in multiple sports.
Watch, listen and learn my friend.
@TelegraphDucker Getting sent off and being down a man is punishment enough why is the suspension for another game even a thing? It’s dumb imagine Tom Brady being ruled out of the Super Bowl bc he got a penalty in the afc championship game lmao
Bombshell day at the World Cup
🔺President Trump called Fifa president Gianni Infantino asking to review Balogun red card
🔺Trump thanks Fifa for “reversing a great injustice”
🔺 In submission to FIFA, US Soccer’s legal team’s case centred around challenging use of slow motion instant replay in decision to send off #USMNT striker
🔺 Belgian FA could take matter to CAS. Investigating all options to “protect the fundamental principles of fair play in our sport”. Say “astonished” by decision
🔺 Rudi Garcia: “I didn’t know that July 5 was equal to April 1 at FIFA. We’re not defending the national team or the federation, we are defending football, its ethics and history”
🔺Gary Neville: “It absolutely stinks”/Ian Wright: “It is shameful”

NEW @TheAthleticFC
Belgium write to FIFA requesting full rationale behind the decision to lift Balogun’s suspension, as well as the full report from FIFA’s refereeing body.
This could run and run - imagine if Balogun scores & US win tomorrow…

@samuelluckhurst Typical @ManUtd , promises promises but when push comes to shove, they just don't have the same appeal anymore, accepting this means my expectations never spiral. So far 5 midfield targets have gone elsewhere and we'll be left with poundland equivalent
Manchester City are making a strong push to beat Arsenal to the signing of Leicester City winger Jeremy Monga.

Martin asks MPs: “Do you know what your equivalised income is?” as that’s what some water firms ask vulnerable people to see if they’re eligible for a social (ie capped costs) tariff.
A clip of the utility regulation evidence at Commons Public Accounts committee. Watch the full session at parliamentlive.tv/Event/Index/0d…
PS MPs later asked Ofwat to explain. It said it is household income adjusted for size and composition, allowing for a fair comparison of living standards across different households, but accepted it “could be explained more clearly”.
@henrywinter England have 3 players on the pitch who’ve each commanded transfer fees of over £100m. And we have Kane.
None of them have shown up this evening.
@MartinSLewis@Ofcom There ought to be no mid contract price rises. They’re all one side in favour of the supplier at the moment so if a company increases costs during the course of the contract the customer should have the right to walk away without penalty.
It's time to ban above inflation mid-contract mobile & broadband price hikes. We investigated 47,000 tariffs, & in 75% of cases @Ofcom's protection rules meant people PAY MORE. In 99% of cases, people saw above inflation rises. It needs to stop. Full story moneysavingexpert.com/news/2026/06/m…
FIFA sources say there were more than 20 million ticket requests for Portugal vs Colombia in Miami.
Prices surged to above $3,000 early on and held steady right until match day. For context, the average price for this year’s Super Bowl was just north of $2,000.

Ecuador were furious after going a goal down early on, but they were behind for just seven minutes against Germany.
Leroy Sane was the beneficiary after Florian Wirtz's pull-back, but Aleksandar Pavlovic was extremely fortunate after his boot grazed the head of Pedro Vite.
Nilson Angulo's fine strike has Ecuador level and the MetLife Stadium erupts in front of a sea of yellow.
You could argue justice has certainly been done.

@notthatsamfox@TheAthleticFC It would have to be more than a bit. UK broadcasters paid £6.7bn for a 4 year deal (about £1.7bn a season) compared to NBC paying $450m/season roughly £350m
@AndyG3224@TheAthleticFC Global audience for PL, they could still sell TV rights for more to non UK media. If NBC can show double the amount of ads, they'll be up for paying a bit more
Rio Ferdinand has weighed in on the debate around hydration breaks - and says he wouldn’t blame the Premier League if they chose to introduce them...
“If all these players and these countries and these federations want the money, you’ve got to do a few things a bit differently,” he says. “There has to be a bit of give and take somewhere. They’re not affecting the game that much.
“This is something I see maybe happening further around. It could go into the Premier League or La Liga, etc. Because it’s more money. They’re going to look at it: ‘Let’s dig into it and find out how much more money came into the World Cup, to FIFA, just on these breaks’.
“So I’m saying, what if it’s a hundred more million? The Premier League are doing it (in that situation). And I don’t blame them.”
