Really interesting point and analysis here by Stefan. The EFL have used the “playoffs are a separate competition” argument to expel Southampton. A competition Boro are already eliminated from. So using the EFL’s legal argument, Hull’s case has momentum and substance.
slbsn@slbsn

🚨Hull's promotion straight to the Premier League is not absurd. Are Middlesbrough already out of the Play Off Competition? I guess the theory goes like this. The Southampton v Middlesbrough game has not been awarded to Boro rather that after the event, Southampton have been expelled. So Hull say that all other teams in this distinct Play Off Competition are already out - Southampton expelled with Boro and Milwall knocked out. Unfortunately, therefore, Hull say, they have nobody to play. A number of Boro fans did suggest their own statement did not state Boro should go through, just that Southampton shouldn't. Of course, that was nonsense and Boro pushed for the place. In the Swindon EFL case, although the Commission did not expressly award the place in the EFL Trophy Quarter Final to Luton, the EFL did so. So a Hull v Boro final replicates that approach. I don't think Hull would be able to get a Commission established in time to hear the case or that a Commission would award them a bye but it is not completely impossible. There is an obvious argument that Boro have already (and finally) been knocked out regardless of the retrospective punishment to Southampton. This is not a case where the Commission gave Middlesbrough a 3-0 first leg win - they simply expelled Southampton. But in 2026, who knows... 🍿

Trends show that Everton under Moyes have gradually been defending worse and worse after an initial boost. On the attacking side, team seemed to be making progress after a tough start up until a point where there was a sudden dropoff. Slowly been returning to that level since.

@Benjwinst Not premier league proven. Rayan, Truffert, Cherki, add them to the list off all offered to EFC and this was the response given

@elpivoteftbl Didn’t Marcel Brands want him too? But the board wanted a shiny “prem proven” manager

@ScoutTom_ @Benjwinst Bournemouth allow the recruitment team to recruit without interference. Everton have never managed that and one reason why we have a mismatch in the squad.

The more I think about Everton’s football structure, the angrier it makes me. Then you watch Bournemouth and the contrast is brutal. Everything is aligned - ownership, recruitment, football leadership, coaching, player profiles, long-term planning. They’re building towards Europe while Everton still feel structurally confused.

If Everton had hired @nickdemarco_ we probably wouldn’t have received two points deductions. I think the Boro reinstatement is another victory for his chambers. Wish he could discuss the cases, as this would be a fascinating book to read

An Independent Disciplinary Commission has today expelled Southampton from the Sky Bet Championship Play-Offs after the Club admitted to multiple breaches of EFL Regulations related to the unauthorised filming of other Clubs’ training. In addition, the Club has received a four-point deduction that will be applied to the 2026/27 Championship table. The effect of today’s order is that Middlesbrough are reinstated into the 2026 Play-Offs and will proceed to the Play-Off Final against Hull City. The final remains scheduled for Saturday 23 May, with the kick-off time to be confirmed. 📘 efl.com/news/2026/may/…

@terry__smith @Progression1878 I know Dyche had his faults (we all do) and he may have stayed 6 months too long. But those initial 18 months with virtually nothing, given the circumstances doesn’t get the credit it deserves

@Progression1878 That’s an unfair comparison with Dyche. No Everton manager has had to work under such circumstances. The pressure from the ownership, fans & realtime points deductions have to be factored in. Moyes has had all the advantages and barely moved us on in identity let alone points.
