📌🇯🇵 Kodai Sano - NEC Nijmegen Position: Central Midfield Date of birth: 25/09/2003 Preferred foot: Right Link to video: x.com/TargetScouting… Kodai Sano is a 22-year-old central midfielder who plays for NEC Nijmegen in the Dutch Eredivisie. The Japanese midfielder stands at around 1.76 meters with an average build. Despite not being the tallest, Sano comes out on top in most ground duels due to his high-intensity playing style and strong legs. However, in physical duels he sometimes struggles to beat his opponent due to a lack of strength. He is fairly flexible and quick on the first meters. On the ball, Kodai Sano displays great technique. His first touches under pressure are fairly consistent. However, Sano sporadically lacks orientation and struggles to process information quickly enough when pressured from behind. In situations where Sano faces his opponent, he displays quick handling speed and outstanding close control to beat his marker. His passing is fairly consistent, although he sporadically overhits passes. Sano has great crossing technique. His long-range shooting is very good. Defensively, Sano solves a lot of problems with his good off-the-ball positioning, picking up second balls often. The Japanese midfielder covers a lot of ground throughout the game, displaying excellent running capacity. Sano positions himself well defending crosses from either wing. He times his interceptions fairly well, but sometimes fails to push his opponent off the ball due to a lack of strength. Overall, Kodai Sano has cemented himself as one of the better midfielders in the Eredivisie, but his price tag of €20m is too high. A logical next step would be a top-half team in the Bundesliga or La Liga.

@efctruth20802 @martynziegler Martyn is the only journalist who has asked the question you and me have been saying for ages. If true, it’s a big risk given PL may get more European places

@ScottBarrettDFB One way to look at this is Mendoza got pulled in multiple games where he would have done as the game was over. Shouldn’t worry the Raiders IMO

📊🇧🇪 Mika Godts, data report ➡️ fluid, controlled, in rarified air in terms of u21 winger output this season + insanely productive this season, beating the absolute shit out of xG and xA with his realized output + finds good shots especially for a winger, this season he's unsustainably (I think) outperforming xG, but it honestly doesn't matter because his xG is incredible anyways + not much of a crosser, like his shooting, his chance creation is often sourced from cutting inside or simply accessing the penalty area first + involvement with "forward passing" is a sneaky good indicator for wingers... if they're important enough to drop deep because getting them touches early and often is a priority, that's just generally a good sign + is both flighty and explosive... a terror in space; 4th highest sprint speed in the UCL this season - when watching him it seems like he should be a better 1v1 dribbler than the numbers indicate, but that could just be wyscout weirdness, plus last year it were a good bit better, so maybe also a product of playing further forward/a touch more centrally this season (which also induced his end product spike) - not much of an oop work rate, which whatever at this level considering who he plays for and what he does on the ball, but might be an issue for a high pressing side - physically limited due to size, has just half of the two P's in PnP - also curious that he doesn't receive many long balls; perhaps linked to the positive of that he's ball to feet and it is a necessity to involve him early rather than to have him stretch the back lines, but worth noting considering his pace nonetheless 💬 I know the Hazard comps are easy to make, but I'm not sold on it. I mean this in a polite way, because I rate this guy more than most I think, but he's got some smaller but more productive Harvey Barnes to his game and his numbers. His data is crazy tho... the filter of u21 wingers to hit his level of shots + chances created, fwd passes, and prg runs is Vini Jr. Yildiz, Yamal 2x, and him. I think ultimately his size/strength will limit his top end ceiling, but there's that 5-10% outcome in his game where he's so good and so productive, it just simply does not matter.

Feeling 1-0 Everton today. Michael Keane, header from a corner in one of the typical Moyes games, up for it, front foot pressing, the “Dogs of War” style
