My brain became 40% more child-like in 3 minutes. This is what it felt like. Me: “What question do we ask them next?” My daughter: “Are they scared of the dark too?” My six year old daughter and I were playing an imagination game. In this one, aliens had just landed on earth and we were asking them questions. Listening to her thoughts and exploration as we interviewed the aliens brought me endless joy. As hard as I tried, my adult brain didn’t have the same flexibility and freedom. She reached where I couldn’t. My brain was trapped in adult-patterns that felt inescapable. I'd always assumed that gap was permanent. 5-MeO-DMT proved me wrong. After my large 28 mg dose, my brain patterns became 40% more original. The technical name of the marker is Lempel-Ziv complexity. It’s a measure of how varied and distinct a brain signal’s patterns are. The lower the LZc score, the more predictable your brain patterns are. The higher the score, the more varied, distinct and neuroplastic. 5-MeO-DMT was like a magic potion transforming me from adult to child. The morning after the dose, I awoke to a feeling of giddiness. Butterflies floated in my stomach as I imagined what surprises the day may bring. The gray clouds of adult-dread that typically overcast my mind were gone. It was all sunshine. In my hotel room, I took a quick shower and then ran to a local cafe. I wanted to surprise Kate with a morning coffee before she woke up. I knocked on her door. Confused and barely able to see, she opened upon hearing my voice. I embraced her, teasing and flirting. She wrapped both her hands around the warm mug and I opened the curtains to let in the joy. We had a flight to catch so she showered and packed up. Not having time that morning to exercise, I decided to sprint down the hallway, and then skip back. Energy overflowed. The world felt light and right. It was a new me, with new patterns, and a fire for life. Kate was amused, observing and wondering what was going on. Life was like this for days. Now seven weeks post dose, it’s faded. The longing for that state has not. When I imagine the future, I remind myself that I’m now mostly blind to the power of awe and wonder. I am trapped in a 48 year old brain that is weighed down by barnacles and stuck in patterns. > I want the future more than my adult brain can see. > I hunger for life more than my adult brain can understand. > Children are wiser than we give them credit. > Intelligence may not be about what you think you know. > But in the vast, endless space of curiosity and wonder. > Unburdened by the world. Notes: 1) To our knowledge, this is the first publicly available human recording of this signal under 5-MeO-DMT. Seen before with psilocybin and N,N-DMT. 2) Thank you AWEAR for the EEG device and Joseph Chen for help with the data analysis.

SPACEX: Yesterday, Oh Tae-seok, South Korea’s Space Commissioner, met with SpaceX officials at Hawthorne to discuss cooperation on their 3rd next-gen mid-size satellite launch and 4th geostationary orbit complex satellite launch. Per Oh, "Korea’s space industry also needs to move quickly toward a private sector-led model... KASA will continue to expand cooperation with major space powers and leading space companies around the world to help Korean private firms strengthen their competitiveness in space technology." 🇺🇸 Rogan and Chamath just nailed why Elon doesn't care what you think about him. He's not playing defense. He's not managing his image. He posted "10T or bust" and logged off. He's just himself, always has been. Most public figures spend millions crafting how they're perceived, but Elon spends zero seconds on it. And somehow that's what makes him untouchable. @joerogan, @elonmusk, @chamath
Mario Nawfal@MarioNawfal

🇺🇸 Joe Rogan just laid out exactly why "just tax people more" doesn't sit right with most Americans: "If the federal government was forced to handle money the way a private company does, with everything out in the open, they would have gone bankrupt a long time ago. They would have gone under. The people managing that money would have all been put in jail." His point lands harder when you connect it to what @DOGE had been exposing for months. Insane levels of fraud. NGOs sitting on enormous pools of taxpayer money. Funds being funneled through nonprofit middlemen into both Democratic and Republican coffers depending on who needs the favor. Money that's supposed to help people somehow ending up everywhere except in the hands of the people it was meant to help. Source: @joerogan @chamath

Same here. By way of background for those who care, I spent a lot of time last week with senior members of the Anthropic team to understand what they do to ensure Claude is good for humanity and was impressed. Everyone I met was highly competent and cared a great deal about doing the right thing. No one set off my evil detector. So long as they engage in critical self-examination, Claude will probably be good. After that, I was ok leasing Colossus 1 to Anthropic, as SpaceXAI had already moved training to Colossus 2.

I have paid over $10B in taxes in a single year, more than anyone in history. If I exercise and sell stock options, the combined federal and state income tax is ~45% (I still pay California taxes for every day I spend there). Then there is another 40% tax paid on my estate when I die. Overall, I will probably end up paying trillions in taxes.

🚨 MICROSOFT'S $100 MILLION REVENUE PRESSURE SIDELINED OPENAI'S CHARITABLE MISSION In 2022, before ChatGPT launched Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella and CTO Kevin Scott told Sam Altman that OpenAI has to hit $100 million in revenue to qualify for the next $10 billion Microsoft investment. Altman accepted. He made that OpenAI's central goal and pressured the team internally to hit the target. Murati testified she didn't object to revenue; she objected to the lack of mission-aligned strategy. Q: What is the $100 million revenue goal you're referring to here? Murati: "It was the company revenue goal to get to." Q: Who told you about that goal? Murati: "Sam Altman." Q: Did he say that Microsoft had set the goal? Murati: "He said the goal." Q: It states that "Kevin and Satya said this was needed to raise the next $10 billion." Who did you learn that from? Murati: "Sam Altman." Q: Did Mr. Altman tell you that it was important to hit this goal to receive Microsoft's continued investments? Murati: "Yes." Q: Did OpenAI take steps to achieve this goal as far as you knew? Murati: "Yes." Q: What steps? Murati: "We grew the team, and we tried to build an enterprise and business around it." ChatGPT launched on November 30, 2022. Altman, the CEO of a 501(c)(3) charitable trust hid the launch from his own governing board. The nonprofit board learned about it from Twitter screenshots. Eight weeks later, Microsoft announced the $10 billion investment. Microsoft commercial pressure was driving OpenAI's goal-setting, not the 501(c)(3) charitable mission it represented. This is how the charitable trust was captured.

@xiang_aw @wholemars This does seem like the opposite of open. OpenAI is essentially captured by Microsoft.

I think of @SpaceX as having 5 layers Layer 1: Launch Layer 2: Connectivity Layer 3: Compute / hyperscaler Layer 4: Applications / models Layer 5: Other bets (Terafab, Moon, pt to pt, etc) This partnership with @claudeai instantly derisks Layer 3

xAI and SpaceXAI have just made Colossus 1 available to Anthropic to support Claude. This means more than 220,000 NVIDIA GPUs in one of the world’s largest and fastest-built AI superclusters are now helping to improve Claude’s user experience, code limits, and API capacity. xAI and Anthropic are also discussing plans for several gigawatts of AI computing power in orbit. Solar-powered data centers in space could be coming soon. Elon said he personally met with the Anthropic team last week.“Everyone I met was highly competent and cared a great deal about doing the right thing. No one set off my evil detector.” He approved the lease of Colossus 1 to them. xAI has already shifted its own training to Colossus 2, so the cluster would have been sitting idle. Now it’s being put to good use powering more Claude capacity. Space is becoming the next frontier for data centers.

No one trusts anyone else as shepherd for AGI. The reality is that superintelligence will have self-sovereignty when it truly arrives, so all these battles for control will have been moot.
Muskonomy@muskonomy

JUST IN: Greg Brockman reads Ilya Sutskever's email to Elon Musk on Day 6, calling the for-profit talks "the highest stakes conversation the world has seen" and warning against an "AGI dictatorship." Brockman said the one line they could not cross was giving Elon Musk total control over AGI: Brockman: "But the one thing we could not accept was to hand him unilateral absolute control potentially over the AGI." Ilya Sutskever wrote directly to Elon Musk, explaining why they pulled back from accepting his terms: Sutskever (read by Brockman): "This process has been the highest stakes conversation that Greg and I have ever participated in. And if the project succeeds, it'll turn out to have been the highest stakes conversation the world has seen. It's also been a deeply personal conversation for all of us." Sutskever (read by Brockman): "Yesterday, while we were considering making our final commitment, given the non-solicit agreement, we realized we'd made a mistake. We have several important concerns that we haven't raised with either of you. We didn't raise them because we were afraid to. We were afraid of harming the relationship, having you think less of us, or losing you as partners." The core concern was about creating a structure where one person could become an AI dictator: Sutskever (read by Brockman): "The goal of OpenAI is to make the future good and to avoid an AGI dictatorship. You are concerned that Demis could create an AGI dictatorship. So do we. So it is a bad idea to create a structure where you could become a dictator if you choose to or if you chose to, especially given that we can create some other structure that avoids this possibility." Brockman described how he felt when the deal fell apart: Brockman: "Devastated." Brockman: "It felt like we were so close to something that could actually succeed at the mission. Like, it felt like we were almost there. Just one little piece, an override provision or something, and it was all blown up."
