Turkish self-propelled howitzer surpasses benchmark in high-stakes firepower test In a recent demonstration that underscored Türkiye’s growing defence capabilities, a Turkish-made integrated howitzer system exceeded international performance benchmarks by delivering 8 rounds per minute — two more than its target rate. 📍 ASFAT, the state-backed defence contractor, led the development of the 8x8 Tactical Wheeled Vehicle Integrated Weapon System in partnership with ASELSAN, MKE, and BMC. During recent tests, the Turkish artillery system successfully performed 8 rounds per minute, surpassing the designated requirement of 6. For comparison, France’s CAESAR howitzer is known to fire at a rate of 6 rounds per minute. The system’s most remarkable feature is its ability to launch high-velocity projectiles that remain virtually untouchable by modern air defence systems — a capability considered vital in modern battlefield scenarios where counter-battery response times are measured in seconds. Military analysts have highlighted the strategic significance of such systems, particularly in light of lessons drawn from the war in Ukraine. “People talking about hypersonic missiles are missing the point,” one expert noted. “If you study the Russian-Ukrainian war, you’ll see that one of the biggest battlefield deficiencies is the shortage of 155 mm artillery shells. You can’t afford to fire $10 million missiles at every target.” With this latest performance, Turkish defence firms have not only demonstrated technical competence but also signalled a long-term commitment to expanding the country’s artillery and deterrence capabilities — rooted in operational lessons from modern warfare, not just technological ambition. @tcsavunma @aselsan @MSB_ASFAT @MKEgovtr @BmcOtomotivTR #MilliSavunmaBakanlığı #ASFAT #MKE #ASELSAN #BMC
