Her dying just meant he put her on this unrealistic pedestal in his head. The problem isn't that he doesn't like women it's just that they aren't HER.

I agree he did love Shannon, but not in that way, and just got in over his head because she got pregnant, and then they had to marry, but in another universe, where he figured things out early on, they could have had an excellent platonic coparenting agreement.
