Have you ever wondered why the U.S. government seems always to get bigger, more powerful, and more expensive, even when Republicans are in charge? I’m convinced it has a lot to do with the way the left has weaponized the Capitol Hill press corps. The Capitol Hill press consists overwhelmingly of far-left progressive activists. In the Senate, they follow lawmakers from meeting to meeting in the hallways, aggressively interrupting conversations and barking questions that sound faintly journalistic but are little more than progressive talking points. Many of their questions seem far more designed to move lawmakers to the left—and shame us when we don’t—than to elicit information with any journalistic objectivity. It appears to be working, as Republican lawmakers routinely help Democrats enact Democrat priorities. Meanwhile, you essentially never see Democrats helping Republicans enact conservative priorities. While it’s difficult to prove the causal connection between this aggressive form of “journalistic advocacy” and Republican lawmakers’ eagerness to advance the ball for Democrats, I’m firmly convinced that the left is getting its money’s worth out of this exclusive lobbying force—which has no significant, conservative counter-balance. It’s arguably the most effective lobbying force money can buy.

I've taught European history for 30 years. Americans have always asked me how the Holocaust was possible, how Germans could have enabled a madman reveling in mass murder to carry out his plans. Now we can see in real time how this is enabled; now we have front-row seats.

@Microinteracti1 @anders_aslund I don’t follow your accounting. If France sold bullion in the US and simultaneously repurchased in Europe, presumably at a nearly identical price, how does that generate an EUR 8.1 bn profit? It’s a switch in terms of location and grade, not a sale.

France Has Moved All Its Gold Out of the United States The Banque de France has completed a full withdrawal of its gold reserves from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. Between July 2025 and January 2026, 129 tonnes of French gold stored in New York were sold and replaced with equivalent bullion purchased in Europe. All of France’s 2,437 tonnes of gold now sit in Paris. Every last bar. The timing is hard to ignore. With Trump tearing up the postwar rulebook and transatlantic trust at historic lows, France has quietly made sure its financial bedrock is no longer stored on American soil. The operation generated a 13 billion euro windfall on the back of record-high gold prices, turning a 7.7 billion euro loss in 2024 into an 8.1 billion euro profit in 2025. Macron essentially got paid to exit. And France is not alone. Germany still holds 1,236 tonnes of gold at the Federal Reserve, roughly 37 percent of its total reserves. The pressure to bring it home is building fast. Michael Jäger, head of the Association of German Taxpayers, has been blunt: Trump is unpredictable, does everything to generate revenue, and Germany’s gold is no longer safe in the Fed’s vaults. That is the mainstream conversation in Berlin. France has already acted. Germany is watching and calculating. The age of trusting Washington with Europe’s gold may be quietly coming to an end. As absolutely everything else. Gandalv / @Microinteracti1

@J_Bardella RN are not serious, and not ready for government. Barnier is trying to prevent the national finances from falling into the abyss, and RN refuse to consider any spending cuts. Once the markets shun French debt, cutbacks will be even larger, and you will own the problem. Fools.

🚨 NEW: Donald Trump says he thinks he knows who controls Biden. This is how he describes them: “You’re fighting off very evil forces, and they’re very smart forces. There are people [who] control Biden. Totally true. I think I know who they are largely, but there are people that control. They’re very smart, very energetic. Possibly, they’re real believers [in] their sick ideology.”

Gathering intelligence is a slow process. These are the first 9 terrorists we’ve identified as eliminated in the precision strike on the Hamas and Islamic Jihad terrorists using @UNRWA school in Nusairat. The strike was conducted against 3 classrooms they were using for planning and executing attacks against Israel and @IDF. The video reveals the limited strike. Notice how the carpets remained in place on the 1sr floor.

This is the first General Election I will be old enough to vote in. I’ve been a Conservative Party member since I was 15. I campaigned for them and ran for local office in their name. I was always certain my first GE vote would be for them, too. But right now, I’m not so sure.

"The Tories are teetering on the edge of the abyss" I have been warning for two years that a meltdown was coming if the Conservative Party didn't get back to conservatism. This week it arrived. The Party has to go in hard on Labour now, because it doesn't have any other options left after this mishandled campaign. There's plenty of material for it - but will anyone be listening? A lot is at stake in the next few days. The Party can't afford more mistakes - and it must give up the fantasy that governing from the centre, and failing to offer voters a real choice, can be a route to success. This is easily the best graphs I've seen of who actually walks the talk in clean energy. China is by far the biggest investor in clean energy on the planet with nearly $700bn invested in 2024, 3.7x what it invested in fossil fuels. North America on the other hand is by far the biggest investor in fossil fuels (about twice more than the Middle-East!) and invest less than half what China does in clean energy...

That's quite a number: Hungary attracted 44.1% of all Chinese investments in Europe in 2023, more the "big three" (Germany, France, UK) combined. Say what you will about Orban's approach, he delivers for Hungary...

@RishiSunak Your government is raising taxes every year by not changing income tax thresholds in line with inflation. And taxes have never been higher, as proportion of GDP. You are in no position to criticize how Labour will deal with your mess.

Very unsurprising: Epoch Times, the media arm of the Falun Gong cult, was found to be running a big money-laundering operation for crime proceeds. Nobody could have expected one of the most unethical cults in the world to run its operations by the book... theguardian.com/media/article/…
