The San Diego attack can't be divorced from state-backed anti-Muslim hatred. The US is led by a loud-and-proud Islamophobe. But nothing is learned from Islamophobic violence, like the 2011 Norway attacks, the 2019 Christchurch massacre, or the 2024 attempted pogrom in the UK.

Horrifying news from San Diego yesterday, where worshippers were attacked just days before Eid al-Adha. My thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families, and the entire Muslim community in San Diego. I know British Muslims are feeling deep anxiety today, with this news coming just days after a march spread hatred on the streets of London. We have record levels of funding for protecting mosques in this country, but we must do more than build higher walls. It is incumbent on everyone, across society, to stand together in solidarity against hatred. I know the British people will do so today.

Hating Muslims and Islam in the West has become social, and some normalised political habit. When will the Government address the growing concern of far-right, anti-Islam radicalisation. Many who have condemned the vile killings of Muslims in San Diego today, have also been the very same people who have played a hand in cultivating this racist and Islamophobic culture. Millions of Muslims living in the West are now the most persecuted group of people. Our children are not safe anymore.

Judaism is a religion of peace.
