@db_econ Best term i think for this is double bind Though it’s more used in psychology where there are two irreconcilable demands preventing some one with a lose lose situation. But surely there’s an existing term in legal language

So you can't do facadism, and you have to be respectful of the existing design, but if you design an adaptive reuse that is so good you can't even tell it's new, the planners also think that's bad ?

A problem that we have in Australia is that a large portion of the planning complex hates cities and urbanisation, and has pursued decentralisation to the suburbs for literally 70 years based largely on aesthetic and cultural preference - and they're not even subtle about it.

SGS wants the government to force jobs into the outer suburbs because of some modelling they did a few years ago. But on their own admission, the modelling is based not on evidence but on vibes. Incredible. No notes. Some of the best to ever do it.

Yeah this sucks. If this is what the party leader is doing why would backbench behave any differently. If she can’t rise above the immediate inconveniences of her constituency I struggle to see her prioritising the interest of the wider state
