We're supposed to be having an epic, collective meltdown because Iran possesses ballistic missiles with sufficient range to hit Europe. That Iran has possessed this capability without using it is apparently irrelevant.
We are also supposed to collectively ignore that the US and Israel have during the past two years not only had the capability to saturate the Middle East with missiles but have actually done so. Their missiles have repeatedly been deployed against multiple states in the Middle East, including close US allies; continue to be used to perpetrate a genocide in the Gaza Strip; and are also being used to degrade and destroy civilian infrastructure, and thousands of lives, in Iran, Lebanon, and elsewhere on a daily basis.
Please also ignore that Israeli and US politicians regularly and casually advocate the use of nuclear weapons in the Middle East

“Knowledge comes from when you ask yourself why … why are we called the Middle East?"
Egyptian feminist political activist, doctor, psychiatrist and writer Nawal el Sawaadi explains why it is problematic to use the term “Middle East” during an event held in 2015.
To those unaware, in 1902, U.S. Navy officer Alfred Thayer Mahan used the Eurocentric phrase "Middle East" in his article "The Persian Gulf and International Relations". It was established as a strategic landmark to safeguard colonial rule in British-occupied India and to delineate domains of influence.
Moreover, it is geographically incorrect. The area that is frequently called the "Middle East" is actually in West Asia, not the "middle" of anything. The statement reinforces a mindset that judges everything in relation to European dominance by artificially placing Europe at the centre of the world.
Because of its colonial origins, Eurocentric framing, and geographic inaccuracy, many scholars and activists call for abandoning the term entirely.
