@CorkGourmetGuy A lot of horses used in sulky racing/harness racing are kept in yards that would pass inspections - all mod cons, vets, etc - it’s the racing on tarmac/being reckless with their welfare on roads (and any performance enhancements used, if any) that needs to be tackled

The ISPCA should be allowed to carry out patrols and inspections backed up by Gardaí on sites where these horses are kept & be authorised to remove them on the spot if they're being held in unsuitable conditions & have the owners arrested for animal cruelty.

RIP JEFFREY 💔💔💔💔 It’s been a heartbreaking Easter weekend for everyone at MLHR 💔 With heavy hearts, we share that our beautiful pony, Jeffrey, didn’t make it. He suffered a severe colic episode, and despite UCD Veterinary Hospital doing everything they possibly could, the kindest thing was to let him go last night. We may never fully understand the cruelty he endured. His bloods were clear, though his worm burden was high, and our vets believe he may have suffered burns. The extent of the injuries to his face and legs is something no animal should ever experience 💔 The only small comfort we can hold onto is that he didn’t pass alone, frightened, and in agony in a cold, muddy field. He was cared for, and he was loved in his final moments. Rest easy now, Jeffrey. Run free and pain-free. 💔💔THIS MORNING IN DUBLIN CITY CENTRE 💔 An innocent little mule was found tied to a fence, hidden behind flats in the heart of Dublin City. No water. No shelter. No care. He just stood there… confused, alone, and completely dependent on someone who failed him. Thanks to a kind member of the public who spoke up, and the quick response from the An Garda Síochána, this little boy is now safe. But the question is, how many others are suffering unseen? This is not okay. This shouldn’t be normal. And this cannot continue. Mules are intelligent, emotional animals. They feel fear, loneliness, and pain just like any other. POOR BOY 💔💔💔 We’ve just left UCD, and this poor little boy is still undergoing tests. He’s been through absolute hell… and the worst part is vets suspect he may have been burned 💔💔😡😡 They can’t confirm for certain yet 💔 It’s completely broken our hearts thinking about what he’s endured. Such an innocent little pony… WHY?! 😡💔 But he’s safe now. He’s receiving the very best care, and the vets are being incredibly kind and gentle with him. A more straightforward law on animal drawn vehicles could help enforcement, but there appears to be issues in enforcing basic road traffic laws, whether that’s due to resources/lack of prioritisation

I rang the Gardai a few months ago to report the very same thing on the N7 and I got the standard " We have no car in the area" despite me emphasising the dangerous situation 🤷🏼‍♀️
