In a shocking revelation, Greyhound Racing Ireland admitted today that as many as 3,000 racing dogs are killed each year. It's time for this cruelty to end.

If you do one thing for wildlife in the UK and Ireland this year leave a corner of your garden for Nettles 🌿 They support over 40 species of insects and are the primary source of food for the caterpillars of butterflies such as the Red Admiral and Peacock 🦋 📸 Ed Rascaille

Someone in the #Valentia #Kerry area must know who did this. No right thinking individual could condone or excuse this despicable act. Please inform @gardainfo if you have any knowledge of who did this. #Dogs #Ireland

@MissingStolen Thank you for bringing this evil cruelty to our attention, Lisa. What kind of warped individual could Inflict such a cruel barbaric death on 10 newborn puppies. Let's hope @gardainfo trace & prosecute this criminality. @DeptJusticeIRL @OCallaghanJim @countykerry @DublinSPCA

@Harry20211959 I had the honour and privilege of shaking Niall’s hand when he came to Dublin to give a talk last year. Bucket list wish number 2: Win the Lotto and give it to Niall. 😁

The older I become, the shorter my life becomes, the more my bucket list becomes. Top wish on my bucket list? Before I shuffle off this mortal coil, is to meet Niall Harbinson, meet him, shake his hand, give him a knowing hug, no long conversation required, meet, hand shake, hug, walk away a happy and contented man. When you know, you know. My wish is to meet an Angel in this life, not the next. 👍❤️

Rotherham, England replaced 8 miles of mowed grass with wildflowers. They saved £25,000 in mowing costs a year and bees, butterflies, and birds showed up almost immediately. You don’t need to wait for your city to act. Start small in your own patch: 🏡 Let your front verge or sidewalk strip go wild this spring 🌻 Toss a few native wildflower seed balls into neglected spots 🌱 Stop mowing one strip and see what shows up 📧 Contact your city government. One email from one person has started initiatives like this before One person. One small patch. Real habitat. Your street could be next.

The figure of 3,000 culled greyhounds every year is actually understating the figure for killed dogs in the lrish greyhound racing industry. Failure to update the industry's traceability system means that significantly more deaths remain undeclared. #rtept
Peters Punts@PetersPunts

Did the CEO of Greyhound Racing Ireland state on RTEs Prime Time that he believed the yearly figure of 6000 dogs being killed due to lack of ability was now reduced to "only 3000" and that "most of them would of died of natural causes anyway"!!! Is he serious? #rtept #ireland

@PetersPunts Pretty much. The CEO of Greyhound Racing Ireland said on Prime Time "There is a level of putting them to sleep on humane grounds. But the figure is not 6,000. It's under half that now." Poor dogs! Overbred in their thousands & culled as "wastage". rte.ie/news/primetime… #rtept

Greyhound racing in Ireland and England relies heavily on Irish dogs, and without government support, it could end entirely. Every donation helps to support this cause. Please consider contributing or sharing to raise awareness. Thank you. gofund.me/46dd076cf

🐰🌸 With Easter around the corner, keep those chocolate eggs out of your dog's reach! Chocolate is toxic to dogs, and even a small amount can be dangerous. Know the signs of chocolate poisoning and what details your vet will need in case of an emergency. 🍫🐾

What's Really in Your Easter Eggs? Senator Sarah O’Reilly Highlights Use of Palm Oil & Backs Irish Producers As families across Ireland prepare to celebrate Easter with traditional chocolate eggs and bunnies, Senator Sarah O’Reilly has raised serious concerns about the growing use of palm oil in chocolate products, warning that it is harming both the environment and the quality of the food on our shelves. “Easter eggs simply don’t taste the same anymore and there’s a reason for that. Too many mass-produced chocolate products are replacing high-quality ingredients like cocoa butter with cheap palm oil substitutes. Consumers are noticing the difference, and so am I.” Palm oil production has been widely linked to deforestation, biodiversity loss, and the destruction of critical habitats for endangered species. Senator O’Reilly warned that Irish consumers are unknowingly contributing to environmental damage when purchasing from popular chocolate brands.  “The scale of the damage is staggering. Globally, an estimated 300 football fields of rainforest are cleared every hour to make way for palm oil plantations and the industry is driving biodiversity loss on a massive scale." The Senator is also highlighting the work of Irish chocolate makers who are choosing quality over cost by refusing to use palm oil in their products. These producers are supporting local jobs, maintaining higher food standards, and delivering a superior product to consumers. “We have incredible Irish chocolatiers producing premium, palm oil-free chocolate. They are doing things the right way, but they are competing against corporations who are happy to cut corners and sacrifice quality for profit margins." To address this imbalance, Senator O’Reilly is calling for the introduction of a targeted tax relief or incentive scheme for independent chocolate producers, modelled on the successful supports provided to Ireland’s craft brewery sector. “We’ve seen how tax incentives helped independent breweries thrive in Ireland. There is no reason why we cannot introduce a similar scheme for Irish chocolate makers who commit to sustainable, high-quality ingredients and who support our local economies." “This Easter, I am encouraging consumers to think about what they are buying and to look closely at food labels before purchasing. We need to choose quality, sustainability and back Irish businesses." @sarahreilly30

Great news for hens in Spain! The Spanish Government has introduced new guidelines excluding the purchase of caged eggs for any public services. 🎉 Thanks to the efforts of #EndTheCageAge NGOs, change is happening!
