New research published in Nature today finds that we are on track for climate damages worth $38 trillion per year by 2050. This is a staggering figure. The damages are projected to be worth 6x more than the mitigation costs of limiting global warming to 2C. nature.com/articles/s4158…

This is big: A new article in @Nature shows that already at current emissions, "the world economy is committed to an income reduction of 19% within the next 26 years independent of future emission choices."
This is a GDP loss of almost one fifth.

Sometimes I wonder if any of the people 10 years ago who were yelling that "global warming has stopped" or "global cooling is imminent" have enough self-reflection and integrity to realize how foolish they were being.

Climate change is making atmospheric rivers stronger, increasing the amount of rain they sweep up and dump on the west coast of North America. This is putting more and more people at risk every year, all the way from Baja California to BC. cnn.com/us/live-news/c…

A "Pineapple Express" atmospheric river will hit California tomorrow, the first of two Pineapple Expresses expected to slam into the state over the next week, bringing heavy rain, mountain snow, high winds, and flooding issues.
However, have you ever wondered what a Pineapple Express is?
A Pineapple Express is an atmospheric river that draws its moisture from the tropics near Hawaii.
Pineapple Expresses can be some of the strongest and warmest storms to hit California each winter.
In fact, last winter, over 30 atmospheric rivers hit California, which ended the state's severe drought and brought record snowfall.
In any given winter, atmospheric rivers can provide up to 50% of California's annual precipitation, making them vital to the state's water supply. However, they can also be some of the most destructive storms to hit the state.
