Federal Chancellor of Germany @bundeskanzler Friedrich Merz and I held intergovernmental consultations for the first time in more than 20 years. Our relations are already at the level of a true strategic partnership, and the resumption of consultations will help us move even faster. We discussed concrete results and plans for the future. The main focus was on the documents signed today, a significant part of which is aimed at strengthening Ukraine’s defense capabilities and resilience, developing the bilateral agreement on drones proposed by Ukraine to Germany, and addressing issues related to Ukraine’s future membership in the European Union. Much joint work lies ahead. I thank Germany for its support and readiness to move forward together.

I just spoke again with Prime Minister-elect @magyarpeterMP. Hungary has returned to the very heart of Europe, where it has always belonged. This is, above all, a moment for the Hungarian people. For their voice, their dignity, and their future in a safe, prosperous Hungary inside a strong Europe. We discussed immediate priorities. There is swift work to be done to restore, realign and reform. Restore the rule of law. Realign with our shared European values. And reform, to unlock the opportunities offered by European investments.

I had an important call with @vonderleyen, president of the European Commission. We agreed that unlocking the EU funds earmarked for the Hungarian people, but frozen due to the previous government’s corruption, is the top priority. The new government will take the key political decisions on how to unlock and invest these funds, in line with the clear mandate of the Hungarian people last Sunday. The Commission will work closely with us to meet the extremely tight deadline and deliver results.

Trump non discute Leone: lo implora di rientrare in un linguaggio che possa dominare. Ma il Papa parla un’altra lingua, che non si lascia ridurre alla grammatica della forza, della sicurezza, dell’interesse nazionale. In questo senso, l’attacco è una dichiarazione di impotenza. Non potendo assimilare quella voce, il potere tenta di delegittimarla. Ma così facendo ne riconosce implicitamente il peso. Se Leone fosse irrilevante, non meriterebbe una parola. Invece viene chiamato in causa, nominato, combattuto: segno che la sua parola incide. È qui che emerge la forza morale della Chiesa. Non come contro-potere, ma come spazio in cui il potere viene giudicato da un criterio che non controlla. Leone non risponde sul terreno della polemica, e proprio per questo resta fuori dalla presa. È libero. E quella libertà, disarmata e disarmante , è forse ciò che più inquieta. E, nello stesso tempo, ciò che più conta.

Sabato scorso #PapaLeone ha parlato di “un argine a quel delirio di onnipotenza che attorno a noi si fa sempre più imprevedibile e aggressivo”, di un mondo diventato “un incubo notturno”, in cui “la realtà si popola di nemici”. Ha denunciato che “il Nome santo di Dio, il Dio della vita” viene “trascinato nei discorsi di morte”. E alla fine un grido: “basta con l’idolatria di sé stessi e del denaro! Basta con l’esibizione della forza! Basta con la guerra!”. Ecco la risposta del presidente Donald #Trump.
