#41 - Peninsula Township Part 2: Farmers are our Only Hope If People Only Knew that farmers the only ones preventing major developments like wind farms, solar farms, data centers, and high density housing. In part two of this investigation into Peninsula Township and the ongoing winery lawsuit, I explore a question at the center of the peninsula debate: what actually happens when farmers can no longer afford to farm? Across the country, small farms are disappearing, and many farmers are turning to direct-to-consumer sales just to survive. Most farmers can’t survive just by growing grapes anymore, they’re trying to sell their products directly to visitors in order to keep their land profitable and preserve it from major development. They often sell their grapes in the form of wine - at wineries. But while Peninsula Township says it wants to protect agriculture and preserve the beauty of the peninsula, farmers I talked to argue that new ordinances and zoning restrictions are doing the opposite. From rising acreage requirements to years-long permitting battles, many say the township has created hurdles that only wealthy landowners can overcome. Policies meant to “protect” the peninsula may actually be accelerating the very thing many residents fear most: the loss of farmland and the spread of subdivisions and large-scale development. Why are people so freaked out over the image on the right and not the one on the left? Feeding your child is completely normal and women shouldn’t feel ashamed for doing it in public.

Everyone should know by now that you need to either grow your own lettuce or buy from someone who does. These massive corporate farms do not care about ethical farming practices - just profit.

Thank you Tiffany for discussing my investigation into private equity buying up all the fire truck manufacturers in the country. Local property taxes are skyrocketing because essential equipment has doubled because of these monopolies.

FDA and @CDCgov continue investigating a multistate outbreak of Cyclospora illnesses.  At this time, we are advising consumers to avoid eating shredded iceberg lettuce from Mexico served at Taco Bell locations in IN, MI, KY, OH, and WV.   FDA is investigating with CDC and state partners to determine if additional products may be contributing to this outbreak.  Updates will be provided as new information becomes available.

But I thought HHS wasn’t tracking the parasite? Looks like they were and traced it back to the source.

@AdamUrato1 Pregnant women are told to stay away from pretty much everything but oxygen and protein. Why would anyone think Tylenol is the magic synthetic drug that is ok?

There is general scientific agreement that Tylenol has chemical effects on the brain. When used in pregnancy, it crosses the placenta & affects the developing fetal brain. These points are not in dispute. Patients & the public need to be aware. (ADHD & autism are broad & heterogeneous conditions with a wide range of clinical presentations. Studies are challenging.)

Village of Holly Councilwoman Cole went after other council members for trying to follow the law. In December the council went into an illegal closed session. Two council members saw this and wanted to correct it by reenacting the decisions out in the open. Instead of thanking them for trying to correct these unlawful actions, councilwoman Cole belittled the ones trying to do the right thing. She is now asking voters to elect her in November for an additional 4 years. You might think voting doesn’t matter, but it does locally when elections can be decided by a handful of votes.

Poor kids always got tax payer funded breakfast and lunch. Now elected leaders are using poor kids to justify giving tax payer funded breakfast and lunch to wealthy kids.

The police just showed up at my door about a social media comment someone else made about elected officials. Let me be very clear: I never condone violence. I always tell you to make change on Election Day and to make your voice heard at local meetings. The only words I am accountable to are my own. I can’t control other people. Also, when I say I am for free speech, I mean it. But even the First Amendment has its limits and threatening the safety of others is one of them. I cannot keep track of every comment and I do not live on social media. If you see something that goes against the platforms guidelines or the law, report it to the platform.

@DrCatharineY You do realize all 50 states have their own health departments right?

A year ago, CDC made Cyclospora surveillance optional. It had been tracked for 28 years. Today: ~3,000 cases across 31 states, no confirmed source, and CDC’s own count (843) is trailing what states are reporting by thousands.

@marwilliamson People act like no one got sick when democrats were in charge. It happens, and no matter how much money you throw at health agencies, people will still get sick.

The severe diarrhea outbreak across the U.S. should surprise no one. It’s exactly the kind of thing we were warned about. DOGE heavily targeted agencies related to food and agriculture, significantly impacting federal food monitoring aid and inspection capacities. This diarrhea is caused by a parasite in food. What did people think was going to happen? DOGE didn't just cut fat; it cut into the bones. @elonmusk we have a problem here. Your boys knew nothing. Perhaps you'll contribute to much needed emergency medical services, particularly in rural communities where hospitals are becoming overwhelmed.

Senator Lindsey Graham has died. If memory serves me correctly, this is now the 4th or 5th U.S. congressperson to die while in office just in the last year.

The Village of Holly Ethics Committee has been breaking their own ethics ordinance. You can’t make this stuff up. I requested all ethics records from the Village and not one complaint went through the mandated 4 step process. The process is: 1. Complaint gets turned in to the Village Manager 2. Manager does an Investigation 3. Forwards the Investigation to the Ethics Committee 4. Ethics Committee investigates and reports their findings to Council Again, public records show that no complaint has ever followed this process - even a complaint that turned into a censure. So what do you do when your entire ethics committee breaks ethics? You. Vote. Them. Out.
