#AFConf2019 older people only walking 500 steps a day whilst in hospital, doubles when they leave - prof Burnan - we need to improve this if we are trying to reduce muscle mass reduction. Not just dressed is best, but let’s encouraging mobilising

This is at the heart of our #HomeFirst project in Barnsley @lizsargeant - for AHPs to find their own patients at the earliest opportunity @barnshospital to maintain the function they have.
Some of our teams are already seeing people early - but we think we can improve 👍

agree not sure why we wait for referrals it does not help manage demand, leads to patients who would benefit not receiving anything. We have to manage our own demand, prioritise as professionals. Referrals mean we see people too late, and are asked to see people who don’t need us
