Listening Practices in Global Catholicism
"One thing that we need to be attentive to is not to be afraid of difference. As Catholics, we love to talk about continuity, we love our theologies to be systematic, but the result is that we can often be very suspicious...of holding difference.”@SusanBReynolds1,Emory University

@Annabel19213284 It isn’t even a case of good places but ANY in some places. There is no plan for what happens when a load of families are tipped over & need state places in those areas. Children pay that price - children already hit by pandemic. Have seen this in Durham repeatedly recently.

@AnnaRowlands1 Yes, feels a bit like class war. And the assumption that good state school places are available all over the country isn't true.

Much in King’s Speech is encouraging, but I find odd private schools VAT (no I haven’t personally sent a child to one..) as a 1st priority. It’s not a child centred policy & will affect many children in areas where there are NO school places for them right now (eg Durham City) 1/

@OLMLaySolitary Don’t disagree with much of that BUT this policy feels kind of ideological hit (Starmer said he wasn’t about that…) that isn’t evidence based - & where I live there are literally NO school places available for in yr transfers. What will happen to those kids if VaT pushes over?

But a totemic VAT charge that will leave some children home schooling surfing for non existent school places - oh and the Academy model with its sovereignty over admissions doesn’t help… children are squeezed in middle. Not what I’d want from a Lab govt 🤷‍♀️

A less doctrinaire approach would fix crisis in school places first so every child unable to afford hike would be guaranteed a place. Right now that is simply not true. This is where no raise in tax causes shifting of pain. No 2 child limit release because it costs too much 3/

@MorwennaExe Is Durham caught in this too? Or is that just a slow appointment process?

It’s difficult to avoid the conclusion that what’s happening in the CNC process for nominating bishops (Carlisle, Ely) goes against the spirit of the recommendations we made in GS Misc 1171…. churchofengland.org/sites/default/… 1/-

The big question. One of the strange features of modern secular life is the deeply religious cult of victim and survivor - where we attribute virtue and high moral status to the perceived martyr. Will Trump benefit from this?

So proud of my beautiful wife for graduating with her doctorate today! A pandemic, two babies, a medical career, she’s shown just how incredible, determined and brilliant she is. We love you so much and are so proud. 🍾👏

I have a special intention to ask people who pray to pray for tonight. If you are the praying kind, even if you’d don’t usually, someone would really appreciate knowing they are being prayed for tonight 🙏🙏

@LeedsHewitt I think there is a difference between guilt and a sense of beginning from a knowledge we speak from complex history and not from innocence
