Great to meet my colleague @FMChoHyun in Seoul for substantive talks on strengthening our close ties amid geopolitical tensions. 🇳🇴🤝🇰🇷 South Korea and Norway see eye to eye on most key issues, including multilateralism, security, trade, and the importance of international law.

Today, I visited the Joint Security Area at the DMZ between North and South Korea. Standing at the border of a conflict that has been frozen since 1953, I’m reminded about a key lesson for Ukraine: that the way a war ends shapes the post-war era for generations to come.

🇳🇴🇬🇧Norway and the United Kingdom today signed a comprehensive cooperation agreement 🤝 The agreement provides for closer integration between Norwegian and British forces, cooperation on frigates, and joint drone projects in the High North. British forces will assume a larger role in Norway’s defence, with increased presence and more training of British Royal Marines in this country. Consideration will also be given to the pre-positioning of British equipment and ammunition in Norway. 'By maintaining a greater presence in Norway, the British Royal Marines will become more closely integrated into Norway’s defence, and they will be able to come swiftly to our aid should a crisis or wartime situation arise,' said Minister of Defence @toreosa - – who signed the agreement while visiting his counterpart @JohnHealey_MP in London today. Honouring shared history and strengthening defence ties🇳🇴🇰🇷 Norwegian Minister of Defence @toreosa today hosted the Republic of Korea’s Minister of National Defense, Ahn Gyu-back, in Oslo🤝 The ministers laid a wreath at the veterans’ monument at Akershus Fortress, commemorating the more than 600 Norwegian personnel who served during the Korean War. The bilateral talks focused on regional security in Europe and the Indo-Pacific, as well as deepening defence cooperation — including ongoing industrial ties such as Norway’s use of K9 artillery and the construction of KNM Maud in South Korea. ‘The Republic of Korea is an important partner in the Indo-Pacific region, both bilaterally and through NATO’s partnership agreement,’ said Minister of Defence Tore O. Sandvik.

🇺🇦 UKRAINE’S INDEPENDENCE DAY: Norway to purchase Patriot air defence for Ukraine 🇺🇦 Norway will allocate around NOK 7 billion to strengthen Ukraine’s air defence. Together with Germany, this will provide two Patriot systems and missiles, as well as other types of air defence. The systems will help protect civilians in Ukraine. ´Together with Germany, we are now ensuring that Ukraine receives powerful air defence systems´, said Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre. ´Air defence is also vital to safeguard military units and critical infrastructure. I welcome @POTUS initiative to bring Russia’s illegal war to an end. Nobody wants peace more than Ukraine. A dignified peace must be a lasting and just peace. No decision about Ukraine should be made without Ukraine. Its sovereignty & territorial integrity must be respected.
