Trainees across medical specialties are looking increasingly to social media for education, networking and research collaboration opportunities. It definitely helps put programs and institutions on the map. Many trainees will lookup and follow program accounts. We saw this effect when building the social media footprint at Emory @EmoryGastroHep There probably needs to be more concrete data about the specific outcomes it impacts: learning, visibility, recruitment, but the published data is not to be ignored.

I need your help #GITwitter Presenting Tuesday at our Annual GME PD retreat on social media as a strategic tool for program directors & trainees. Despite ample published data, some educators remain unconvinced it moves the needle. So I want real-time feedback from the people it actually affects. Has following myself, my colleagues @DrHasan_Orlando @DennisYangMD @MahamHayatMD @Meghs1119 @AndrewEldenMD or others at AdventHealth GI shaped how you think about our program & what we’re doing in general GI and the advanced endoscopy space? @LumirKunovsky @BilalMohammadMD @ernrobalino @AMohammedMD @AimenKhanMD @SanjeevaniTomar @BahaFawwaz @AlmujarkeshMD @d_ogsingh @RaghavBassiMD @ASGEendoscopy @AmCollegeGastro @AmerGastroAssn @AdventHealthCFL

But what do we actually do about it? Some of the most practical takeaways I heard in @KanwalFasiha talk: 🔹 Define your niche- deliberately Your niche is not just your research topic. If people hear your name, what do they associate you with? 🔹 Find a sponsor, not just a mentor Mentors guide you. They’re the ocean - broad, steady, essential. Sponsors move you. Your sponsor is your whale (see pic, it’ll make sense) 🔹 Be strategic with your yes and your no. Not every opportunity is an opportunity. 3 actions: • Define your niche in one sentence • Identify one potential sponsor this month • Audit your commitments and start saying no with intention Careers don’t just evolve. They’re designed. And if we want different outcomes, we have to be intentional about how we build them. @DDWMeeting #DDW2026

@Gut_BMJ @ruben_hernaez Fib4, as great as it is, is designed to rule out advanced fibrosis (stage 3-4). ability to discriminate stage 2 mash is not its design. For me, I go by the recent guidance by the aga for pts with diabetes, go straight to elastography. 2/2

New @AmerGastroAssn MASLD pathway: for people with type 2 diabetes, you can now skip FIB-4 and go straight to elastography when it’s available. gastrojournal.org/article/S0016-…

♦️Does your snare of choice reliably “work every time”? ✅ More efficient? More effective? 💙 Fewer adverse events? 💠Different preference for flat polyps? ‼️ Or do you like it because that’s the one your institution keeps in stock?! 😂

I launched a program called RIGHR (Research & Innovation in GI and Hepatology for Residents) to increase the # of residents pursuing GI/Hep -- we pair residents w/ mentors in our division and have a longitudinal virtual coaching & mentorship curriculum.

One of the most impactful (on a professional AND personal level) talks that I have heard by @DMGrayMD about the importance of defining your PURPOSE, and how that is your grounding force, particularly when under pressure. PURPOSE allows you to determine whether an opportunity is worth your time and energy (the cost). PURPOSE helps you decide whether you need to seek more skills and how to best utilize your existing talents and expertise. PURPOSE provides the navigation to impact. PURPOSE gives motivation and structure under pressure.
